My baby sister sent me the 20TH aniversary edition of Dragon's Lair. I take it out of the box, put the disc in my drive, the auto run kicks in and I see a menu saying pick a game. I click Dragon's Lair and all it does is revert back to my desktop. Could somebody please tell me why and how to fix it? I'd hate to think she blew her money for nothing.
Why don't people ever completely read posts? How can I go to options when all it does is crash after I pick what the menu tells me to pick?
The requirements should be so low that a seven year old PC that never got an upgrade should be able to handle it. Dragon's Lair is pretty far from technically advanced. Just look at those astounding minimum requirements: http://www.allgame.com/game.php?id=45350&tab=sysreqs
That's my point, newer computers (especially vista/win 7) have difficulty running old games. Especially dos games.
Hmm.....I'm running XP Pro and just noticed my Dragon's Lair 20th Anniversary Edition wouldn't run at all either (just flashed the wait cursor for a few seconds then nothing), probably a Windows update screwed it for running in native XP mode. Once I set the compatibility mode to Win98, then it ran fine. If you don't know how to set the compatibility mode in WinXP: Go to "My Computer" and right-click on the disk drive containing the game and select "explore", find the game's execute (mine is "DLair.exe"), right-click on that file and select "properties", in the window that comes up select the "Compatibility" tab. Check the box that says, "Run this game in compatibility mode for:" and in the drop-down box just below it, select "Windows 98/Windows ME". Ignore all the other options in that window and select OK to close the window. Try to run the game. It SHOULD work now. Hope that helps you.
Re: Dragon\'s Lair Help That's EXACTLY what happened to me! Only thing was I didn't know how to get into compatibility mode on a disc until you posted! ;v) Another thing is I didn't get a manual with my copy, did you? I opened that configure gadget with all those check boxes and I'd love to know what's what with all those. And do you think Dirk would mind if I ran him through joy to key? ;v) Post Merge: [time]1313847916[/time] I did some really cool things with it after I learned what was going on! ;v) First since I didn't want to louse up the I made an ISO out of it and I'm now running it with Daemon Tools Lite! ;v) And I am playing it through joy to key too! ;v)
I run mine as an ISO too. It's just easier than having to hunt up the disk on the rare occasion I get a notion to play it. Anyway, glad I could help you get it going. Enjoy!
