Ok, I'm new with ROMs, and I can't figure out how to make them work. I posted another thread on how to make a ROM work with Zsnes, but the person who answered said I had to extract the ROM, but I can't figure out how to do that. I go to the download page on Romulation for a game, and I click where it says to click to get started. But then a window comes up that says it's and unknown file type, and that I can save it or find a program on the web to use it. What do I do?

It's probably saying that because windows doesn't recognize the archive you're downloading.

The file you're downloading, either a .rar or .7z file is what you call an archive, that's not exactly the ROM or game you want to use on an emulator. They're the game files compressed to make download handling easier & safer.

Now to open them you need a program known as "winrar", go to this thread for instruction on this

I changed the link for you since this one by Almo is much better because it has photos for ease of use.

    Hope this helps you out.

You're not only new on ROMs, but you're new on computers too ( no offense). I presumed you had WinRAR installed when I posted before, it's a basic tool.

    My bad, though. :(

Also having them compressed saves space on servers.
