I found a few MMOs I want, but they take too long to download. If it's a large file or if it takes more than 30 minutes, it cuts the internet out except for the download itself. How can I cut down downloading time?

Download right before you go to sleep

Get a faster internet connection. Use a download manager that will let you resume stopped downloads.

Can't do the first one since my parents would be pissed off at me.
Can't get a faster internet, either.

And the last time I used a download manager, I managed to fuck it up and had to restart the entire download. So I just won't do that anymore.

Then don't bother downloading anything large. You seem to not understand some basic concepts here. Time = File Size / Download Speed. You can't change the file size, you can only change your available time or your download speed.

Get a better internet service provider or choose your downloading time accordingly. Do so while you are sleeping and no one in your family is using the internet, use a download manager and divide the download into multiple shorter periods of time, or just don't download and play the games.

These are your only options. Unless you can contact the company and get them to send you the file on a CD/DVD for a small fee.

So sit on these forums and whine every day for 30-60 minutes about how you can't download these games, or actually start downloading them. All the time you spend trying to find quicker ways to download them is time wasted. You could actually already be playing your favorite MMO of the week... You complain about not wanting to spend an hour downloading a game, yet sit here for an hour complaining about it!

......Your point? I just want an insanely good MMO that downloads insanely fast.

I'm up until 4:00AM most nights, and my dad gets up at 4:00AM.... He uses the computer at around that time, so it's not like I can leave it downloading. Not if it cuts the internet, anyway.

We've got the best service provider in the area. There isn't anything better.

And it's not like I have any games I could play while I wait. If I'm downloading things and it takes a while my other games are unplayable.

Bah, this is worse than that time I found an MMO, downloaded it, and found out it was shit.

The Download speed depends on how fast your provided internet speed is AFAIK.

No it doesn't. The website for some MMO I tried to get said it could take up to several HOURS. And their installer downloader is a kind of download manager that MUST be used to download the installer, otherwise you'd have to use torrents. And I can't torrent because even a blank word file takes at least a week to torrent, no matter how much seeds there are.

Just how fast is your net speed?
    http://www.speedtest.net/

and how large is the file you are going to download?

Well, the download links (for torrent and direct) are here (linking it might help explain more.). The filesize difference for direct and torrent are weird, I don't get it. It appears that the installer itself might be the gb size listed for direct and the kb size listed for torrent must be the installer downloader.

NOTE: My laptop, which was shitty and slow, could have downloaded this MMO's installer in less than the 1:15:00 it would take on this computer with that friggen installer downloader. And that laptop couldn't download anything.

The torrent downloads the 2.37GB file game installer and in my case, net speed and everything... I've got 4 hours for its download to finish.

Your speedtest result compared to mine

I can download 2.37GB in like 10-20 minutes otherwise. o.o

    Seriously.

But with MMOs, it suddenly can't download in that time.

Meh... I'll just go back to Trickster.... Stupid Ragnarok Online ripoff... Stupid RO private servers being too big... Stupid internet cockblock....

Just use torrents, seems like its your only way

No matter the seeds, it'll take a week, at minimum, to download the game. At one point on some download with at least 100 seeds, I was only getting 1% downloaded PER DAY. Torrents are NOT an option.

Apparently for you they are your only option :(

Blah. When they're not an option, the only option is to have another option. Don't you know troll logic?

EDIT: Fack. The MMO download that was ONLY supposed to take 40 minutes ended up screwing over in the end and I had to restart. Restarting caused the download to skyrocket to over an hour. o_O All I had to do was reclick the download button wtf
EDIT2: I spoke too soon. *Sigh*
EDIT3: Wait, I spoke too soon again.

Bigger downloads are meant to take a long time...

    I got a better suggestion=patience.

If I can wait 7 months for a ps2 game (4gb), then anyone can wait, seriously is it all about getting things there and then these days?

Here I am, in Australia where our internet isn't all that grat, i got 2.80mb on speed test.net with my old isp, and the current one gives 5.00mb when it stops cutting out, it takes ages to download things, so as what my friends do, I ethier download while i sleep (rare though, laptop fans keep me awake) or i use a download manager, i use free download manager, which also does torrents.

I can't see how you mess up using a download manager, for I am an impatient, stupid fool around pc's (I nearly killed my mother's with viruses and this laptop freezes from time to time...) and yet Im able to download just fine, I just need to wait it out...

And please tell me these file sizes, if they aren't past the 25gb mark then you are expecting too much-the download timers=bullshit.

EDIT:I just re-read the 4am part...what the hell, after I clock out from my job at 4pm Im on until 2am, unless it's a torrent I get most downloads done that are 2gb or less, and I'd do many downloads these days.

Finally, use speed test, please, if it's less than what I said I think you cleary have no chance at fast downloads.

Your download speed, incidentally is, 4x mine. Most mmo servers actually allow things to be downloaded faster than say, mp3 websites. They're not the best, but for me, they're one of the better. I can easily reach the max my ISP package will allow me to go on them, around 180kb/s.

Download managers are simple, really. All you have to do is push the pause button when you need to pause, and play button when you need to resume. Sometimes it gets messed up, but that's the price you need to pay for your...Strange lifestyle. I'm pretty sure you can use a DM every day for 30 minutes and get your game in 3 days. If you can't wait, I'm afraid you're doomed to a life of Neopets and Minesweeper.
