Download managers are driving me INSANE!

Ok, here is the deal...again I'm having issues with download managers.

I'm attempting to download a game via megaupload links (it's a ps2 game if your interested) and at first I used "free download manager"...

All parts downloaded fine, but 99% during extraction..."crc error".

I attempted to download the end part again to see if that helps...nope same issue.

Still 99%, I attempted a reinstall of the download manager, and...same AGAIN!

So I tried to revert to flash get...and the same issue from a previous trial is apparent-the download is frozen and it keeps showing "server error".

As we speak, 800mb is stuck on 30.6 percent, pausing doesn't help...let alone trying again the next day from where I left off.

So...what can anyone suggest, my limited badnwidth (150hours of use, and 8gb data) is being eaten!

Here is something though, from time to time the download will show 2 kb's of progress go by before showing the stupid error (in the download log) comes up preventing further download.

(Ps, using latest version of 7zip, AND winrar, both exact same result).

Unless someone in australia has a copy...well I'll sit here and whinge...

Your problem is you're using a very bad company with Mobile Broadband. I highly recommend you get yourself DSL that can connect to your home phone, as you're seriously wasting money on Mobile Broadband.

It's got nothing to do with your Download Managers, in fact...if it wasn't for your download managers, you probably wouldn't even be able to download that game at all.

Some people have no choice but to use mobile broadband, expecially in Australia. DSL is very limited range, more than about 6 miles from the exchange theres no signal on the line at all.

Trust me mate, I live in Australia...and if you're even lucky enough to get good mobile reception here with Mobile Broadband, then getting DSL isn't too hard.

I live in one of the worst areas in Australia when it comes to availability, but even I have DSL. I also use Mobile Broadband myself, which I've actually used Hypno's ISP before (Who BTW suck).

Either a new ISP Mobile Broadband or getting DSL is Hypno's only option, this is from experience of having similar issues.

What's worse is I can browse the net...but anything megaupload just won't work.

And...just to tick me off, I tried downloading burnout here...I spent 3 weeks...and it came out corrupted :(

I can get bette rnet, but the so called "20gb" my mother is allowed (more like 2gb...) meant I was forced to use mobile wireless broadband in a area that doesn't support it well.

And the bulk of my downloads is after midnight, which is when the stupid thing goes above 60kbs.

I can download smaller files ie ds roms fine, but megaupload has a 50/50 chance at actually working no matter what :(

It was the only one that fit my budget at the time, only choice is 3 or telstra...and I detest both for name alone, optus isn't helping my mate ether from what he tells me.

This is the problem-the net is working but the downloads are not-the internet as I type is working with msn windows poping all around me, yet this damn thing won't start!

...I might try free download manager again despite the re-install.

Trust me, I did the exact same thing. Biggest mistake I ever did. After a week of noticing how terrible Mobile Broadband was with Dodo, I returned it and bought myself Mobile Broadband with 3, after a year I can safely say they've been a very reliable ISP.

I've also recently been using Vodafone Mobile Broadband, it's actually really good. It can top speeds up to sometimes even over 400kb/s and uploads get pretty high too. The great thing is the Vodafone Pre-paid Mobile broadband dongle is only like $79, and I think the recharge prices aren't too bad either considering what you get.

But they all use the same network...optus...only telstra and 3 are any different.

I'd rathe not use this annoying device, but until I move out/mother dies/I disconnect her from optus by force I'm stuck...and I'm not gonna pay anymore money of devices like these.

And here is something, right now I'm downloading a 100mb file...it's going 70kbs...thats fine...

Without the manager, using the built in firefox one.

The manager that is running is STILL frozen on 30.6, but if I download another file that isn't on megaupload, it'll run...and the current one will remian unchanged.

Right now isp ISN'T the problem (this is temporay) so...why are these stupid managers going belly up with megaupload files!

you cant use download managers on megaupload unless you have premium, they dont allow them for free users.

I use a download manager on MegaUpload all of the time and I'm a free user...

FlashGet works perfectly and I've downloaded a lot of Wii games through them with using it.

    ...bugger...

Looks like I'll have to get their manager...again :(

They tend to play up for me.

Free download manager was...WAS working ok until this download..and burnout before hand.

Have you tried DownThemAll for Firefox?

    ...never heard of that one...

    Better than nothing...worth a shot...

It's just an add-on built into firefox. It's ok, but not the best one that I have used. Worth a shot if you want to.

...now you tell me...can it pause-resume so I can continue the next day?

    ace1o1 Well-Known Member

You can pause, but I'm not sure about resuming....just forget about it really now that I think about it.

But I was using it when my wifi router was plugged in and was corrupting a lot of my downloads.

At my friend's house, I resumed a download once I redid the MegaUpload download screen timer thing.
