I can't believe it's taken me at least five years to notice this, but out of every single game I've played on all consoles (PC doesn't count) I've played, none of them did NOT have a "Press Start" screen (Lord of the Rings 2 & 3 could count because it threw you into the game upon the first play). Has anybody played a console game where it doesn't have a "Press Start" screen?

Yes, but it still says "Start", doesn't it ?
Also, Gourmet Chef doesn't have a "Press Start" screen.

*sigh* I was waiting for you to say this:

Cooking Mama is from the NDS, which is a Handheld, not a Console.

You knew I was going to say Fair Enough?
    How :|

    Also: handheld game console
Therefore, still a form of console.
    Thanks Marcy ;D

That's okay, because according to the first post in the thread, PC doesn't count.
An awful lot of corrections going on in this thread.

Sorry, I'm gonna post the message "What's inFamous?" after the quote.

    Errr... 0?

I posted 4 GTA games. Seems like someone didn't read today's lesson. :/

inFamous is an awesome game ,answer to your question.
And 4 GTA games count as 1 ,I think.

    Back on topic people!!!

I believe Rogue Squadron on the 64 didn't have a start button, went from an intro movie to the main menu.

What's the purpose of "press start" buttons anyway?

    I think it says:
"Hi there, you have looked at my cool title screen right? Hey? Are you there? Please press start or I'll rewind the game demo/opening movie."
Something like that, they must have followed the continuity from early arcade games, where you must insert the coins and press start to confirm that you're ready.

I guess that's the reason why...
Super Mario Bros. didn't have a "press start" screen, it just has a screen to choose 1 or 2 players

I can't think of any games right now just the arcade games like kamuikurou said.

Ridge racer was my favourite arcade game for years before I got a Nintendo 8 bit for Christmas a long time ago.

The original Contra only had 2 options. That was "1 player" and "2 players"
