I was fiddling with the new release for SNES9x which is version 1.52 and one of the things it requires is Xaudio2 for the Sound output. My system doesn't seem to have it installed seeing my specs are 4 to 5 years old. Reading the emulator's readme files says I need at least Directx 9.0c so I could run the emulator with Xaudio2 enabled. Now I did manage to find it on Microsoft's site but I was unsure if my system is compatible with it. Sure the download page says I need at least Windows XP (which I use) but it didn't say if I need a Soundcard for using it or not as I currently only have onboard Audio. Also, no hardware specs was said, so I'm not sure if that too might be an issue. So my question then is can I download it without causing issues with my system? I still haven't gone & upgraded this thing since I got it three years ago since I'm still kinda waiting 'til Core 2's cost cheaper or at least wait 'til this guy croaks seeing as it still manages to do stuff I need to do. Also I'm more into retro gaming so I never needed the upgrade that much since most retro emulators needed lower specs even with my specs. My specs: Windows XP SP3 Intel Dual Core 2.8GHz processor Onboard Audio - CMI Xear3D (CMedia 3D Audio) 1 Gig RAM 250G Hard Drive GeForce FX 5500 Graphics Card And Oh yeah I forgot, I once tried upgrading the drivers for my onboard Audio, as suggested by Microsoft's update page & the device driver update they provided was incompatible with my system which caused several issues.
1) microsoft update drivers for XP and lower never work. (with the exception of CPU driver updates) It will probably work with onboard, try it
OK thanks, will do. EDIT: The download has finished & I unzipped the file but there's no executable in it, all there is is a PPTX file. What should I do with it now? Edit again: Crap the download page says I need PowerPoint 2007 to open it. Ooops... Oh well, I'll go & grab a copy of it later as it's still 6:48 AM here on my end.
