does m3i zero work on the regular ds lite?

A friend of mine bought the m3i zero but he does not own a dsi so 2 questions:

1) does the m3i zero work on the regular ds lite?

2) how can I set it up, I did the set up but when I download the system file and the f-core and hook the m3 to my pc i'm supposed to see a blinking light for 15-30 seconds but I am getting nothing.

the issue I'm having right now is after I download the file I put the micro sd card into the m3 and hook it up to my pc with the little black usb cord, my m3 is not showing any light at all, the video shows it blinking and mine displays no light.

also the guy on the video said if you dont have the micro sd card in the m3 it will display a solid light, but I'm getting nothing. Is it possible I'm doing something wrong? or do you think maybe my cord is broken?
