Does it depend on brand of CD-R?

If I burn Valkyrie Profile into a cd-r, will it have different results when played on ps1 with different brands of blank cd's? Does it depend on the brand of Cd? What brand would anyone recommend? Because when I played Valkyrie Profile on PS1 with two different CDs, the other one works while the other one doesn't.

    Thanks :)

The quality of the CD makes a difference. Some cheaper discs are made differently enough that the PS1 will have issues reading it properly.
I hear something like Verbatim is a good brand.

I used verbatim too but the result is not satisfying. After i press the difficulty choice, the cd keeps retrying!

It also depends on how you burned it as well, not just the medium it's burned on.

The drive i use to burn the ROM? Or the burner? I used IMG burn as my burner.

    Most likely the settings.

The Speed settings. Too fast can cause writing errors.

no higher than 4x, the lower the better with PSX games.

Oh, very low. That takes a long time. Why very low?

I don't believe it's a guaranteed error. Just the minor errors that your PC won't have issues with may cause loading issues when copying PSX games to play on your PSX.

By burning at a lower speed you reduce the chances of errors. And since you only have to burn the copy once, the extra time it takes to help ensure a usable copy is negligible.

Just burn at the lowest speed.

burning at a higher speed does not necessarily mean there will be errors. It just means errors are more likely to occur. You were lucky with wild arms.

I'd confirm most of what is mentioned above:

There's a lot to be said for using quality discs such as Taiyo Yuden or anything with their disc ID, i.e TY01 TY02 etc. Some Verbatim discs use TY dye, so do the odd JVC. I bought some excellent quality from ebay, believe it or not! Search for Taiyo Yuden.

Then there's burning speed. I also use Imgburn for a lot of things too. I let it choose it's own speed but I'd agree that you use x1 or x2 speed at the most.

oh one more thing i just remembered: the valkyrie profile i burned on verbatim which has unsatisfying result was burned at the speed you mentioned. Why is that?

errors can still occur even at low speeds, its just significantly less likely than at high speeds.

basically if it does not works at first try again, getting a good psx game can take some time
