Something compatible with most programs, I need tutorials for things like walk cycles and lip syncing. I can't seem to find any online.

you're not likely to find any. Tutorials tend to be specific to individual programs.

Got any advice? Should I just adopt a specific program?

I can head over to the library tomorrow. I can pick up a few trial CDs and a few books.

I could pick up a trial version sometime later.

Synfig Studio is a free vector program I could use, but my dad installed it in a different language for some reason.
