Does adding prefixes in already popular games boost sales?

Never bothered to do the research, for a few reasons, mostly me unable to find the appropriate websites.
Just wanted to know. Can it magically boost sales?

    I would say.

Super Mario Bros. always get good sales.

Super Mario Brothers already had a prefix. So it doesn't count.

    How's that?

Unless your counting back from Mario Bros, to Super Mario Bros.

Even so, Super Mario Brothers came with every NES. So it wouldn't be fair to count it.

Wouldn't be fair not to count it. as its has spawned a lot of games/ports since then.

So I guess you won't count any pack in games for Super Nintendo,Sega Master,Sega Genesis,Sega CD,Gameboy either eh?

Theoretically, it may boost initial sales but in the long run, it'll probably depends on quality and reviews I guess?

You see, if the first game in the long line of games is "Super Mario Brothers" from NINTENDO, it wouldn't count as it already has a prefix. And since it came packaged with every NES, it doesn't count as sales.

And you couldn't have stated that before now? But what if "Super Mario Bros." was what drove everyone to buy a Nintendo? Sounds like sales boost to me and so are you just not counting the Super Mario Bros alone? then does that mean you can't count the entire line as there is no starting point...

I don't think so, adding Super to a game didn't really make it sell more because it had Super in front of it. The sales were based on the merit of the series itself and the quality of the game. This was mostly relevant

You see, the first game starring solely the Mario Bros. is Mario Bros. Adding a prefix didn't suddenly change the ENTIRE Mario character and series. Is Super Mario RPG considered part of the long line of Super Mario Brother series? They share similar prefixes. Most Mario games share the same prefix, Super Mario 64 is vastly different to Super Mario Bros, same with Super Mario Strikers. Is that included in the same series?

Mario IS the series of games.

I'd imagine a Home Console with a Light Gun would attract the sales.
What if it was the first game in the series?

The Lightgun and ROB the Robot were moreso stores would think it's a toy, as opposed to a video game console.

If Super Mario Brothers was the first game in the series, then it wouldn't be adding a prefix, as the prefix was already there. But that's not the case. But would removing the prefix make the Mario games sell less? I doubt that.

Because there's a huge fanbase already.

This same logic applies to your initial question.

So what... adding prefixes to Super Mario bros would be

    Hyper Super Mario Bros?

    Fantasy is a lame name....but

    adding Final in front=hype

    Final Fantasy=sales.

FF XIII sold 5.5 globally (even though the sales are based on the multiplatform release.)
The reviews aren't as positive as past FF but because it's Final Fantasy, people buy it.

Final is not a fundamental prefix like (a, hyper, or ultra) but it does make things sound epic and up the hype.

    Comparison

    Fantasy vs Final Fantasy
    Warrior vs Final Warrior
    Frontier vs Final Frontier
    Revelation vs Final Revelation
    Necromancer vs Final Necromancer

    Mario vs Super Mario
    Boss vs Super Boss
    Power vs Super Power
    Freighter vs Super Freighter
    Carrier vs Super Carrier
    Weapon vs Super Weapon

See? I does hype up the title especially if something/a game is a new IP. Nevertheless. it's not the most contributing factor of popularity.

^ The question is adding a prefix, not the prefix itself.

That didn't seem to work for the Street Fighter II versions...or did it?!
