Do pokemon Diamond and Pearl work on emulators?

I recently downloaded pokemon pearl, it loads up and you go through the whole name your character gist, but when you get the actually game, the top screen goes completely black. I can still hear sounds of me bumpin into walls and stuff, so I know its not frozen. Does anyone have the same problem?

 

They work, but you can't use older versions.
