OK, first off I'm really sorry if this is just a heavily repeated topic, but after searching around for a bit I still have a few questions. (I'm still somewhat new to CFW so I have no idea where to get info lol) But basically is the only difference really that Gen-B doesn't have kernel? I mean I love m33-6 and such, but the recent block from PSN has made me take another look at Gen. The only thing I really use CFW for is emulation so that's what concerns me the most. Will Gen-B still run PSX games and emulators just fine? And that is excluding ones that run off of kernel (like SNES), of course. I just really want to know how is performs compared to m33. Also, will my backed up PSP games run fine as well. I loved the fact that I could just put my games on m33 without switching UMDs. So, is it worth the jump to get acess to PSN and such again? I'm kind of hating that newer games aren't playing as well. It's like Sony's forcing me to download cracked versions of my games lol. Thanks in advance and sorry again if this has been asked already. P.S. Wasn't sure if this went here. Sorry.
http://www.psp-hacks.com/2009/06/13/custom-firmware-550-gen-a-build-4-released-for-the-psp-1000-2000/ Found this. Looks like you can.
There isn't much of a difference between the two, if you need to update to play then go ahead, it should be able to do everything that 5.00M33 can do, the only problem I found was that IRshell doesn't work with 5.50 Gen.
Well the only part of the 5.50 Gen-B, is a patch of Gen-a. Gen-B can play Evangelion: JO that has the anti-cfw scanner inside of the game, and it requires a 5.50 update as well.
