I downloaded "Legend of Kage 2" recently I was suprised to find out that it was made by Square (hint: think "Final")! Any games that you found out to be made by a group that you'd never think would make a game of certain Genre? Post it here, dudes!
EA is going to release a si-fi horror called Dead Space.A little bit far from their usual sports genera.
What about Peter Jackson's upcoming "Halo: Chronicles" based on the Halo series? Now that is FAR from movies!
remember that square bought some companies over the years, which i believe are taito and enix [merger]. the original game was a taito game. square has become nothing more then a regular company, just like what happened to electronic arts. square hasn't invented anything new to their games or any leaps to take. anyone read that japanese gaming crisis article on egm? there is a quote that says, japanese developer are stuck in 1998 or something. to that point it is true. if you look at final fantasy, it hasn't really changed. the only changes it undergoes is grahphics. final fantasy underwent a big change when it went from 2d to 3d in ff7 but after that it didn't do much. ff13 will be ff10 but with better graphics. maybe when they reach ff15 or so when they decide to make a leap of faith. anyway, back to topic, rpg's by namco?! that was unexpected when you played tales of symphonia and found out that it was by those that made dead or alive and soul calibur.
Oh yeah, Peter Jackson, New Zealand guy. Yes you're right ultra, Taito, see Space Invaders Extreme. Uh Capcom when they made the early Legend of Zeldas.
How about Castle Crashers? Don't get me wrong, that game is fun as hell! I'm just wondering when did Newgrounds make games for consoles? (plz c'mout 4 DS, lolz)
EA do every genre dead space is not a surprise to list a few, they in on crysis, spore, mass effect, mercenaries, command and conquer and warhammer online the list goes on, sports is only a small part of what the produce
mass effect was originally published by microsoft. ms let go of bioware and ea bought it. that was how mass effect was ported to the pc. spore is a no brainer because the guy who made sims also worked for the company. so it was obvious that something similar would have been thought of. mercenaries, the original game was published by lucas arts. and guess what happened? ea bought pandemic studios, the ones who made mercenaries. command and conquer was developed by westwood studios and many gamers got upset when they got killed in 2003. it was acquired by ea in 1998. the only real surprise was crysis and warhammer online. crysis, my god. who would have thought that ea would have achieve such miracles for a pc game. the big surprise about dead space isn't the fact that ea made a survival horror game, any company could have made a resident evil clone. but rather it was developed by ea themselves and it runs and looks superb. i also agree about peter jackson doing that halo thing. how the hell did that happen. from movies to video games.
crysis could have been better, shame it needed 500MB worth of patches to make it playable in some cases.
Getting back on subject, now Koei, a Japanese VG company best known for the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai warriors series, recently came out with Fatal Inertia which looked like a Sci-Fi Racer... That sounded like I did the Ten o'clock news or something! hehehee
