This a problem about RAM, and I want to apologize if there is another topic about this. ( I'm so lazy in checking ) So, I'm still waiting for the delivery of the desktop and laptop so I'm stuck with my old comps. I was checking about the specs and found out that old desktop has only 220 MB of ram which should be 256 MB and the laptop has only 120 MB when it should have 128 MB of RAM. How is that possible? Its no big deal but I'm just curious.
Some of the ram could be reserved for use as graphics (video) ram; and/or maybe the desktop doesn't have a total of 256MB? (e.g it could have 128+64+32, which would equal 224, with 4MB reserved for framebuffer memory)
Ah, thanks for explaining that. I thought it was like a power thing and its destroying parts of the RAM when its overheating or stuff.
You could have mixed gold and tin connectors, but it sounds like you ordered ir from a company so I doubt it would happen.
in my experience that would mean two different kinds of ram, and it's not possible to run two types of ram in one machine simultaneously.
Not that, the PC's gold connectors to the RAMs tin connectors or the other way around, gold and tin corrode overtime. The corrosion can cause RAM slow downs and eventually just stop working altogether.
i was using my old laptop which i upgraded the ram a month ago, from 128 and added a 256 for a maximum of 384mb... so i ok, it was fine for a while like 2-3 weeks then i stop using it for like the last week or so, and when i opened it yesterday, it was just 240mb... any answers for that? is the new ram just burned out and if it was supposed to be 384 it just became 240? or the built in 128 just burned out and left the new ram of 256 working?
ah, that explains a lot, thanks! i thought it was using space in the harddisk! thanks again for the speedy reply!
