    Hi romulation :)
I've suddenly become an avid fan of 2d fighting games and after pretty much getting every last breath out of street fighter i thought i'd move over to king of fighters.  But from what i've heard, each version hsa different characters, and that annoys me because i want to get a feel for everyone :D

So i was wondering, which versions should i get a hold of and on which console if i want to get the full KoF experience (Having major trouble with KoF 11, so anything before that).  I really want to be able to use everybody and give the series a real chance.

    I wish PCSX2 liked my laptop :(

edit: my apologises if this is the wrong forum

I'd probably suggest one of the retro consoles (they virtually all have kof games)

    See that's the thing.
Each version changes the cast. :S I don't want to get every version, but at the same time I want to be able to use every character. Wikipedia doesn't have the table showing which character is in which version :p That would have made it soo much easier.

The King of Fighters series pretty much keep some of the characters though the games then they introduce a few new ones each year the ones I played was from '94-'02 but as far as I remember there wasn't just one that had the whole crew of SNK fighters in it but the later game.

But anyway the best system to play them on is the Neo Geo, but they ported some to the new gen systems as well as continuing the series somewhat.

yeah they work on MAME,Winkawaks or NeoRage...(there's a few other emulators too) but just remember to get the neo geo bios files before trying the roms or they will not load up.

NeoDS + KOF = Win. Seriously, if you have a DS why not put it to good use by putting NeoDS and play NeoGeo games on it.

IMHO, if you really want to get a feel for the games, you should start at the beginning, KOF94.
Then go to 96, 98, 99, 01. I can't say that I really like any of the games after 2001 though.

If you just want to throw yourself into a KOF game, without bothering too much about the history of the game or the various fighting system changes it's gone through, I cannot recommend KOF 2000 enough. To me, KOF 2000 will never, ever be topped.
