Deadly virus caught on the off site "Top 100 rom sites" link

    To the esteemed RomUlation staff:

    I'm asking you this, "Is this bad karma for NEVER EVER" voting for romulation?

    You see for the past 7 months I've been on the site, NEVER once have I voted for the site, whenever I downloaded ROMs, but mind you I have a solid excuse. I joined the site on September of last year, but I actually found this site in June, back then the site was plagued by adverts that carried viruses or worms, & I was unfortunate enough to have caught a few of 'em. So I left & went to other sites to get my games, but by September I again re visited RomUlation & thankfully the guys upstairs changed advert vendors so the bad stuff was finally removed.

    Why return you ask?

    Well because RomUlation carried WAY more titles than other sites, even titles that are... well you know. So Finally I registered here then began Downloading, but as I said, never did I once voted because the vote sites were links outside of RomUlation & I feared for getting infected by crap again.

    But just a few hours ago I finally voted 'cause that orange reminder on my "home" page finally made me feel guilty, so I said heck since I've been here for so long I'd better show how much I appreciate what the head guys have done so there I go.

    But that was a costly mistake!!!

    When I voted on "top 100", a pop up Dowwnload confirmation window popped up so I said "the hell!!", then cancelled it but another small window opened with nothing on it so again I cancelled it. Then, an hour later, my PC started restarting repeatedly, as if my Power Supply Unit was about to die on me, so I stoppe' turned of my PC, unplugged it then opened my PC to check, but to my horror everything's honky dory, then it hit me, I got pwned by a bad ass virus, one bad mother that my anti virus software couldn't detect so I had to reformat my system, along wiyh EVERY ROM I've ever Downloaded but luckily I Had backed them all up months ago so no big deal 'cept for a minor problem I'll post on "Technical Help" section.

    Hope you guys look into this 'cause that was one bad mother indeed...

    And sorry for being this big ROM moocher for so long I promise to be more considerate

    if it's caused by the topsite there's nothing we can do; we have no control over the topsite.

    EDIT: It wasn't the topsite, I've just voted with no popups for downloads or otherwise.I would suggest you got a trojan/BHO from somewhere else that coincidently started misbehaving at that time.

    i'm using Opera do you think it's a browser targeting virus. Also, I think I clicked on the "rate' button, I think. :-\

    if its a browser targeting it will be targeted at IE. Anything else is pretty secure and not worth targeting

    Neither Opera nor firefox would allow a virus to execute simply by visiting a website, and chances are IE won't allow it either. I'd say you downloaded something that disguises itself by only bothering you when you browse the web, thus laying the blame on those websites.

    There are some that have a timer after executed and will not go into efect until a later time.
    I agree that it could be a coincidence that this started happening while on this site.

    Find a better source for your porn! :D

    Anyway I've finally found out what hit me, a variant of the friggin' Sasser worm!! :-[ :'(

    What kind of antivirus that can detect and fix(maybe delete if t's impossible)?

    a good one such as nod32 or kaspersky labs. Malwarebytes antimalware and javacool spywareblaster are also good programs to have.
