I did something really stupid and just realised my mistake. A few days ago I deleted about 4 gig's of music videos which I thought I had backed up on DVD. Turn's out I don't have it anymore. Is there any way to recover files I deleted off my hard drive? It is no longer in Recycle bin either. Is there any way to recover without doing a system restore? Any ideas will be appreciated because it took me ages to collect these videos.
yes, you need a program called getdataback and another hard drive (you can't restore to the hard disk you're recovering from). There are no guarantees though, parts of the files may already have been overwritten.
...shit gonna have to bear the losses I guess. Thanks though Loony, was hoping you would reply because I know you know about these things.
You may be able to do what loony suggested with an external hard drive, seeing as pcs recognize them as an actual drive than removable storage, but I'm not too sure. If you really wanted the videos back you could always just buy yourself a new hard drive for $20-$30, install that into your system get your files you want, then afterwards setup the 2 hard drives into a RAID 0 setup.
by the time he gets the new disk the files will be long gone. Also, NEVER use RAID0. It doesn't provide any noticeable performance gain and if either disk fails you lose everything.
only if he doesn't use his computer again until he gets it, and its probably already too late. The more you use a computer after deleting something, the less chance there is of getting it back, and that is especially true of large files.
It depends. If you used the computer after the files are deleted the chances of it being recovered is reduced significantly. It never hurts to try, though. I'd plug a USB drive in and use something like a portable Recuva/Getdataback/Undelete to try to at least recover SOME of them. Recuva saved my ass after I accidentally deleted my term paper.
How about a USB flash drive? It's the only thing I have but it is only 1 gig. The folder was over 4,5 gigs. Haven't used the PC much, but have done some work on it.
Not a problem. You can try to recover them file-by-file, emptying the disk onto another computer when it's full.
