ok, so i hear swap magics scratch really easily and break so you have to buy new ones. So, I looked for a remedy (other than freeMCboot, Which I can't run) and found D-skins, skins that supposedly protect disks.

Now, I have a few questions.

    1. do the d-skins actually protect against scratches?

    2. Will the ps2 still read my real games/swaps if i put d-skins on them?

    3. I plan to get a 5-pack of d-skins (the least amount available) but i heard eventually they get messed up too. How long does each last?

    4. Is it overall a good idea to get these d-skins for my swaps?

    5. Ok, if all is clear there, is this an ok place to get the dskins?

    Thanks for any help.

C'mon. Has anyone tried these? I don't wanna waste cash if they're useless.

    I never have used them.

I've had my swap magic for a while now and there's only a minor scratch on the DVD-ROM driver and that's it. Nothing else is wrong with it. If you keep them in good condition and out of harm's way, then they should be just fine without D-Skins.

I store mine in the back of a 102-cd case and my ps2 is a 90001 top loader (the discs sorta pop in and out) will I still be good?

I guess. I keep all of my games in a paper case for each. They're inexpensive...like 100 for $5.
They protect the discs better than the cd cases that can sometimes scratch the discs upon taking them out.

ya...that's already happened a bit...but I can always burn nu copies of games:) (not swaps tho, I keep them in the back to avoid scratching but maybe it's no good?)

So will slim jewel cases work as well? gotta crapload of those.

Also, does putting in and out of the ps2 the swaps hurt it?

You should use the Jewel cases for the Swaps, I would recommend. They are irreplaceable!

As long as you don't like jam them in and out of the system, they'll be fine.
Also, remember to lay the discs with the burned side up! My friend doesn't do that...or my brothers...drives me cwazy!

I mean if you take them out. :)
People always lay their discs with the label facing up. I put mine down so they don't scratch, but it's only for like a minute or so until I put it back into its case.
And burned side, meaning the side that the data is stored.

Are you kidding? Laying Burn-up is an instinct for the intelligent half of our generation :D

    Good!
Most people I know don't do that... :(

I try to teach my brothers this as well...or put them away immediately.

Remember, that the data on a disc is not stored on the "burn side" it's stored just below the label side. So while scratches on the burn side can cause errors, they are pretty easily fixed with the various scratch removal methods. But any deeper scratches on the label side will actually ruin the stored data, not just cause the laser to not read it correctly.

Yeah, that's a pretty big fact with discs.

But it's not like I take a car key to the top of my swaps before I use them each time XD

Top scratches do not happen often.
