cyclic redundancy check utorrent

ok im downloading a big iso file with utorrent to a 500 gig external hard drive and on this one torrent im getting this error "data error: cyclic redundancy check" id say it happened two times ever 30 or so minuets. iv searched around and some sites say the hard drive is failing some say i need to do a check disk, but i only had this hard drive for two days now and its been working fine. and its only this one torrent. so is my hard drive failing? and if so is there any way i can fix this without replacing?

by the way its a western digital my book formatted to ntfs and os vista sp2 64bit

 

Maybe it's the fact that you're using an external HDD.
Download it to the normal HDD and then transfer the files to the external when it's done.

 

My guess is that you formatted the external HDD as FAT32, which is limited to files of 4GB. When you try to write a larger file, it will generate a cyclic redundancy check error.

Solution: Format your external HDD to NTFS.

 

i did format it before i i even started downloading stuff

when i tried to install the game(ISO a) it kept unmounting from the virtual disk drive during installation.
then i downloaded another ISO(ISO b) from the same user i got the last one from i got the same utorrent error and it also unmounted from the virtual disk drive. then as a final test i put a other ISO(ISO c) file on the new hard drive(transferred fine) and put ISO b on a other hard drive. ISO b did not transfer to the other drive it said unable to read source data. so then i tried copying ISO c back and it transferred fine. conclusion the ISO files(a, b) must have been bad or something because other files work fine.

update: well i got the error half way through another game torrent. any reason why it this keeps happening? and i scaned the disk for errors and nothing was found

 

Ok, but did you format it to FAT32 or NTFS?

Did you finish downloading ISOs A and B, and how large are they?

Also, download only from release groups. Do not bother with custom-made ISOs.

 

i said i formatted to ntfs. iso a and b downloaded fully, and they wore roughly the same size. but all that docent matter because i have bad sectors and the western digital data life guard failed to even start to fix them. and it wasent the isos it was the hard drive.

 

got new hard drive, it works fine, thanks for the help
