I hate unions. All of them. I worked at a job that was unionized, and wowee, the benefits they brought me! I couldn't get decent health care at my job because they wouldn't give anyone who wasn't management a full time position. My pay was higher than minimum wage too! Almost a nickel higher! Too bad my union dues were about $60 a month, and I worked only about 28 hours a week over the course of 6 days. My boss was also incredibly sexist, and one of my fellow co-workers was fired as a scape goat when the safe in the office was robbed. Unions do a great job of ensuring quality work environments. That's in the past though. So let's move on.

My biggest gripe is mostly the writers guild. Assholes, all of them. I haven't avidly watched a television show since Invasion America first started airing. I helped my girlfriend move into her new apartments many many months ago, and mixed in her DVDs was a box set for a TV show called "Heroes". I watched the first episode with her, then proceeded to watched the show in it's entirety throughout the night and day. Needless to say, I like this show a lot. I was quite amped to hear that season 2 was already playing through, and I watched it. Pretty good, I enjoyed it quite a bit! Ah, but then, here comes season 3. Unfortunately, so did the writer's strike. Now, this writer strike screwed over many networks I'm sure- Jon Stewart or whatever that guys name is would make a few tired jokes here and there about it- but this pretty much turned "Heroes" into a giant steaming pile of (insert remainder of generic statement here).

Where the story and it's characters had continuity, now the fans are given out of character situations, incredibly contrived and boring plots, and some generic dead horse that has been exhumed from a 1960s tomb to be beaten with a stick. What the hell assholes, what the f$#@*ing hell. I understand that the entertainment industry is predominantly geared towards making money, but where the hell did the passion go? Where did taking pride in ones own work disappear to? I'm not going to try and pass off some piece of garbage as "art" with my name emblazoned on it just to make a quick buck. Bah, sorry, this rant is getting all helther skelter.

But back on subject- I think that unions should be defunct now. Yeah, they were needed about half a century ago, but now they're just becoming their own corrupt big business. The higher ups in the unions traipse around lining their pockets with the union dues and freaking out once in awhile with a strike just so people think they're doing their job. Hell, I want to get into the entertainment industry and I don't want to go anywhere near a union at all, but you HAVE TO or else you won't be able to get a job pretty much anywhere. I might go into the ultimate fall back job of a teacher but you HAVE to get unionized there to. I don't want to get forced into a strike because some ass thinks that paying co-pay for insurance is outrageous or bitching and whining about not getting paid for online content. The people that suffer from the strikes aren't the companies or the schools, it's the damn people! Yeah, teacher strikes are great. F-U kids! Your futures aren't important because my tenured ass is NOT going to sit around while the school tells me to pay for my own pencils! Hey world, let me insult your intelligence with half-assed stories because I'm not overpaid enough!

    Meh, I'm sleepy.

Back in 19th century, unions were created to protect workers as they were being royally screwed by their employers. They served their purpose rightfully back then, but as time moved on, they acquired more power and became more of a pain in the ass.

Right now, the only purpose all unions serve nowadays is to simply kick the companies (which they work for) square in the nuts. It's that kind of crap which partly lead to the downfall of GM (General Motors) and Chrysler.

Unions simply do not understand anything, especially during this time when the economy is in the shithole. All the union members do not understand how fortunate they are to keep their jobs while other workers (who are not so fortunate) get slapped in the face with pink slips, yet those union members still push on to do shitty work. It's crap like this which makes me not support those companies controlled by unions as a consumer.

yeah, i know union is supposed to protect the rights of the workers, but that is if they are in the right situation, the world is facing tough times and they demand a larger pay check?

what the F? they are lucky to have a job. millions are losing those jobs everyday, and some people, especiialy here in our country, the KMU, what the hell are they thinking, higher salary? when the company in not selling, cause the buyers ain't buying, how can the company give larger salary when they cant even afford to pay the current salary.

ok, fine, give them a higher salary, and when the time comes for the pay check, the company closes, can those Unions force the company to stay open? damn this new age unions, yey to old, just unions.

unions are good only in an environment where there is often abuse on the workers. a very good example would be during the rise of industry in europe and america. during the industrial revolution, if you look at england for instance, people worked slavery hours, that is one would work 14-15+ hours a day for 6 days. the creation of unions would be to help create standardization and improve conditions for the workers as well as other improvements that can be made for the better of the workers.

in today's world, it sort of becomes unnecessary to have unions. one reason is that the gov't has taken steps to provide some form of security for workers. one example would be harassment, which can be reported anonymously and become processed. another example would be standardization for industries to follow, such as minimum wage requirements. second, companies become more "humane" overtime from the events in the past to treat their workers better due to the end result of what unions typically force companies to do. there are many more reasons, but two is sufficient.

also, what eventually tends to happen with unions is who looks over the unions? basically, the union itself has become a despot [a corrupt organization]. this can be a third reason why companies eventually treat their workers better and why they rather treat their workers better then being bullied by a tyrant.

this is a good example of why nintendo got rid of that quality logo in their trademark. back then, the industry was fresh and people made crap games and needed the regulation. in today, you don't need that because the industry has become established and anyone can make a game. but to sell games is to make good games and if a company want to make crap games then it's all right because when they make crap games it's a lost to them and not the consumer. basically the industry regulates itself by having companes compete with each other based on what they can offer as a better product then the others. this is why i believe nintendo has let go of that quality logo. nintendo has stopped unionizing the industry for their console.

A local steel factory went on strike last year. The company hired "Scabs" and now the Union is still on strike, but they had enough "Scab" employees that they voted the union out of the factory.

So the Union is still outside picketing and what not, almost 8 months later. The company has all new employees and is basically ignoring them. That's what the Union gets for deciding to go on strike when Unemployement is floating at 12%. Plenty of people willing to work for decent (2x minimum wage and benefits) pay, while these people are being greedy and demanding more pay and better benefits.

If somebody is earning a daily wage instead of the 15/30 or monthly salary, and they decided to strike even for 1 day, where do they get the money to spend for that day they dont work?

Our transportation groups are demanding higher fare rate cause of the oil prices going up last year. To force the companies to lower the prices, they hold transport strike. Ok, so it worked and stopped production cause people cant go to their workplaces. but the problem is, is it justifiable to stop everyone to work because of their own personal grievances? Shouldn't they think, that they are not the only one who is suffering?

and transport workers are getting paid for the day they work, they dont earn when they hold strikes. if you have just enough to get by for the day and you dont work, what will happen? you starve for the day you dont go to work?

The Union pays them when they strike. But not very much, pennies compared to what they were making.

And of course to them it's justified to annoy everyone because of it. That's the whole point. They try to make the company's image look bad by striking and causing the company to disappoint their customers.

Some people are sympathetic with the strikers, and blame the companies for the issues caused by the strike (if the company had treated their employees better, the strike wouldn't have happened!)

Other people blame the Unions for the issues caused by the strike (Those workers are greedy bastards that just want more money for doing the exact same thing they always do!)

Sometimes, when someone has a way to not lose the job they have, like a union, they start to slack off, and yet, when they get called out about it, they get pissed because there getting called out while the guy around the corner is "slacking off" when he is really working. I really hate people sit around and do nothing, but get mad when they get called out about it. Have courage people, if you feel that you can keep a job by doing nothing, drop the union. You will be out the door so fast your head will spin.

Sorry about that, just can't stand these people. I need to go relax.
