Currently Modding a Wii - Need Help [Solved]

1. I was offered a Wii so I quickly did a research on how to mod it. But before I get into serious business I had some questions.

-I am using a 4G microSD card for my NDS. Is it possible to use it for the hack and will I be able to use it at the same time for my NDS?
-Do I need to use the Twilight game once?
-Is there any other (or safer) way other than the TwilightHack?

Thank you

UPDATE: Please skip this first post and check the latest ones. Thank you

Re: Questions about hacking the Wii

Oh Hell yeah It's Possible!!

I'm lucky I saw this!

Here you are. The Treasure Trove!!

To burn a Wii game, use the program ImgBurn and burn the Wii ISO at 4x speed for maximum quality onto a non-cheap DVD-R.
-Download ImgBurn here.

You MUST mod your Wii in order to play download/burned games.
-USB Loader GX is my preferred USB loader.
-ULoader is what I use to play disc games.
-Some Wiis can't read DVD-R.

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO MOD YOUR WII!!

If your Wii's serial number is LU7306 or higher, then you will NOT be able to play DVD-R's on your Wii.
You will only be able to play from USB if your Wii Serial Number is the same or higher than LU7306.
-Check your Wii Drive Number on this great page. Actually read it. :p

In order to mod your Wii, you will need a good hacking guide and need to know your System Menu number.

Checking your Wii System Menu number.
-Turn on your Wii.
-Go to the Wii icon in the lower-left-hand corner of your screen.
-Go to System Settings.
-Your Wii System Menu Number is on the upper-right-hand corner of your screen.
--For example, my Wii System Menu number is 4.2U.

Wii Hacking.

-If your Wii is 3.1-4.1, then use this guide to hack your Wii.

-If your Wii is 4.2, then use this guide to hack your Wii.

If you need any help with modding your Wii, I have done a few myself and helped MANY people mod their Wiis.

Just let me know if you need any help. :)

Re: Questions about hacking the Wii

PM Me also. I hacked my wii. (I bricked my wii also.)

If your wii is under lu7306, you can still mod your wii fine. It is more difficult to install cIOSCORP (pretty much a softmod for reading DVD-Rs) on a lu64 or higher wii though. You can still use a drivechip instead, because it is a lot more time consuming to softmod it.

http://wehackwii.pbworks.com/Softmii-3-Guide Guide to softmod your wii.

Now, if you ever mess up or brick your wii, PM me.

4. Re: Questions about hacking the Wii

Oh man I never knew about that serial number thing. I'll know once I have it with me. Thank you very much for the very informative replies <3 (even though I may spam this forum later when I will actually be hacking it, I'm a real noob when it comes to technical language)

@mikeac: Yes I am pretty sure I saw your moment of panic when you bricked it on another forum (if you have the same icon). How did it end up? Fixed?

6. Re: Questions about hacking the Wii

Ok I got the wii and as I inserted my SD card in the Wii I get the message:

The device inserted in the SD Card Slot can't be used.

I am using a 4G MicroSD, as I mentioned above. So I guess I really can't use a Micro for this (I did format it into Fat32).

Re: Questions about hacking the Wii

I use a 2gb Micro SD.
And my friend uses a 4 GB Micro SDHC. So it should work unless you're on a lower system menu that doesn't support SDHC.

Are you using a Micro SD to SD adapter?

The Wii can't read Micro SD by itself. You need an adapter.

8. Re: Questions about hacking the Wii

Aaaah an adaptor... how do I do that?

An adapter is something that you plug in your Micro SD card into that allows you to read and write files through a regular SD card slot.

10. Re: Questions about hacking the Wii

Oh alright of course I have it (and it doesn't change my problem).

Could it be because it is a Lexar, and not a Sandisk as recommended by Nintendo?

Or is it as ace101 said and the problem is my Wii menu (ver. 3.4)?

Re: Questions about hacking the Wii

Update your Wii menu to 4.1 if it doesn't work. You need to use a bannerbomb, Indiana Pwns, or Stack Smash hack since the Twilight hack only works on 3.4 or below.. You have to use any SD Card 2GB or less, formatted into FAT. I use a Kingston or Patriot 1GB MicroSD card.

12. Re: Questions about hacking the Wii

Mikeac, I have a 4gb. Will updating the wii really help me?

Maybe... Usually though, wii hacks require SD cards under 2GB.

Re: Questions about hacking the Wii

I'm on 4.2e at the moment, I'd like to see if I am able to install Bootmi as Boot2, and backup the Nand before going ahead (as I would guess this is the most foolproof way not to brick). Would I have gone too far to stop the process if I do this?

Re: Questions about hacking the Wii

You can just uninstall bootmii when you are done backing up the NAND. If you can't install it as boot.2 (since you are on 4.2), install Homebrew Channel, Bootmii as IOS, then press home while in the homebrew channel, back up your nand, then uninstall hbc and bootmii.

Re: Questions about hacking the Wii

It is only possible if your Wii is an older version.

Other than that it is impossible to have BootMii as Boot2.

Only as an IOS.

That could be the problem as the older wii menu versions don't support SDHC. :(

But if you do update, you will need to do a safe update (please don't do the offline update. It is SO VERY RISKY!!)

I can give you links, but you will need to install the Homebrew Channel and mod your Wii in order to do a safe-update.

Well this is quite contradicting. My main problem is that the Wii cannot recognize my actual SD card so the solution would be to update it with the Homebrew Channel. But I can't install the HBC without my SD card. So how about I go get a Sandisk 2G later, would that simplify the problem?

Re: Questions about hacking the Wii

Yes it would... 2GB was pretty much the standard a few years ago since most systems couldn't handle it. That is when the Wii couldn't handle SDHC cards since it was in 2007. In 2009, they released a firmware update supporting it.

The offline update is not risky unless you are doing it from WAD Manager (a homebrew). If you are doing it from a disc, MAKE SURE IT IS THE 4.1 UPDATE, cause 4.2 is a pain since it disables lots of hacking and homebrew stuff.

19. Re: Questions about hacking the Wii

ALRIGHT DUDES! THIS IS WHERE I AM AT!

Step 3 of http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-faqs-guides-tutorials-only/16970-new-3-1-4-1-softmod-any-wii.html

It says I shouldn't downgrade wii menu <3.3

I am using 3.4 so I skipped the downgrade part to not brick it but the installation failed. SHOULD I really downgrade it or did I miss something?
Here is the last part of the message I can when I tried to download the 3 patches:

"ES_AddTitleStart returned: -2011
You need to use an IOS with trucha bug.
That's what the IOS15 downgrade is good for...
IOS36 installation failed.
Press any button to exit..."

Do I really need this CIOS?

Something came through my mind:

Did I turn off WiiConnect24.

But as I entered the Wii Setting, it said my files were corrupt.

Am I doomed?

Re: Questions about hacking the Wii

You are not doomed.... First download this pack: http://wehackwii.pbworks.com/WeHackWii-Package
Ignore the 4.1 WAD files for now.

To clarify on your first issue here is a better guide:
http://wehackwii.pbworks.com/USB-Loader
You do need a cIOS, which is in the first guide.
Step 5 and 6 are confusing, so here:
Restoring the Trucha Bug

Step 5:
1. Launch dop-IOS MOD from the HomeBrew Channel
2. Press A to continue
3. Press down to select "Install an IOS that accepts fakesigning" and press A
4. Press B to continue without IOS Reload
5. Press down to select "Downgrade IOS15" and press A
6. Press A on <Load IOS from sd card> to get IOS15 revision 523
7. Press A on <Load IOS from sd card> to get IOS15 revision 257
8. Once complete, press A to exit
9. Launch dop-IOS MOD from the HomeBrew Channel
10. Press A to continue
11. Press down to select "Install an IOS that accepts fakesigning" and press A
12. Press B to continue without IOS Reload
13. Press A on "IOS36 menu"
14. Use down/up/left/right to select

Install IOS to slot: 36

Patch hash check (trucha): yes

Patch ES_Identify: yes

Patch nand permissions: yes
15. Press up to select "Install patched IOS36" and press A
16. Press A on <Load IOS from sd card> to get IOS36 revision 3351
17. Once complete, press A to exit

If you get the error "Installing ticket... ERROR! (ret = -2011)" during TB Part 2, alter step 4 and continue normally.
12. Select "IOS: 15" (use left/right to change if needed) and press A
Once the IOS successfully loads, press A to continue

18. Launch dop-IOS MOD from the HomeBrew Channel
19. Press A to continue
20. Press down to select "Install an IOS that accepts fakesigning" and press A
21. Press B to continue without IOS Reload
22. Press down to select "Restore IOS15" and press A
23. Press A on <Load IOS from sd card> to get IOS15 revision 523
24. Once complete, press A to exit

Step 6:
You only need to remove 202, 222, 223, 249, 250, and 254
1. Launch dop-IOS MOD from the HomeBrew Channel
2. Press A to continue
3. Select "IOS: 36" (use left/right to change if needed) and press A
4. Once the IOS successfully loads, press A to continue
5. Press down to select "Remove stubbed IOSs" and press A
6. Press A to continue
7. Once complete, press HOME to exit
Unfortunately, you have a semi brick. Here is how to fix it...
If you have access to the homebrew channel, here is a guide.

Download These:
If you have an American Wii: (eg. X.XU firmware)
http://www.mediafire.com/?itxkymzjvy2
http://www.mediafire.com/?iijnjj4nqzn
If you have a European wii: (eg. X.XE firmware)
http://www.mediafire.com/?itxkymzjvy2
http://www.mediafire.com/?mtonrlnxwzo
If you have a Japanese Wii: (eg. X.XJ firmware)
http://www.mediafire.com/?nnmatmzduy3
http://www.mediafire.com/?wgiyrww2ld4

Use wad manager from the pack I provided above.
Install the IOS and System Menu from WAD Manager.
Press Home to restart the Wii. Turn off the Wii, and remove the SD card.
It should work fine now, but you can't use the Twilight hack.

Hope this works...
