Just curious, are CSOs playable on a modded psp? I jsut noticed that all of the games I've been downloading are CSOs =p
yes, a cso is a compressed iso. However you may find that some games do not work well in cso format, because the overhead of decompressing them places too much of a burden on the PSP hardware. this will manifest as pauses and intermittent slowdowns during gameplay.
I've seen on some forums that you need Devhook to play this type of file, but that was a rather long time ago. Do I still need something like that or has the newer versions of custom frimware taken care of that?
The 5.00 M33 CFW can play ISO and CSO and the M33-6 fix optimizes the mem card read ive tested this on a Slim and a phat and if you compress ISO into CSO it wont have any Ill effects unless you have a bad rip of the game
Some games in cso format might be hard to play, for example Test Drive doesn't always load the roads in time and you end up falling through the floor. I don't have 5.00 yet so I wouldn't know about the better handling.
I think the PSP slim (2000) handles them better than PSP Phat (1000) does due to having 64MB of ram instead of 32MB. It can load more ahead of time. I run 5.00M33-6 on my PSP (1000) and my brother has 5.00M33-6 on his (2000). I had a couple games that had extended load times and lag when I ran them with CSO that my brother didn't have any issues with. I never turned on the "Speed up" Memory Stick access plugin though. I think the games were Monster Kingdom Jewel Summoner and Dungeons and Dragons Tactics.
turn on memory card speed up it takes away all Lags on the Phat using CFW but sometimes CSO an ISO's you get off the net are slightly corrupt and thats what causes them to slow down take a good tip and rip your own games cause sony was lazy and just burned the ISO to the umd in plain pc format
