alright so I understand that a CSO is a compressed ISO file...could someone give me a list of games that do not work well in CSO form? I know the two GTAs lag a bit, but honestly those are the only games I'm aware of. A short list would be greatly appreciated.
In CSO form that do not work well? Here is my list: SSX on Tour the two GTA's as you said FIFA 08 Patapon God of war Chains of olympus; just a slight lag though The Prince of Persia games FIFA Street 2 Can't think of anymore really, I just post again. Hope this helps a bit
So far this is what I've gathered. Test Drive Unlimited: slow, laggy, doesn't load the road and you fall into the abyss. (You can rip out the UPDATE folder) Jeanne D'arc: doesn't even boot (has a checksum thing going on. You can't rip out the UPDATE folder) Short list I know. I haven't run across any other problems with other games so I'll update this post if I find any more.
thanks guys I would also like to add that Smackdown Vs. Raw 2008 lags a little too much for me in CSO form.
most games lag a little in CSO format, any large, graphics intensive 'top shelf' game will lag in CSO, I usually download all my games in CSO and extract them to ISO to play, they dont really get that much bigger and its worth losing the extra space to play a game flawlessly. GoW: chains lags to no end in CSO, certian parts freeze completely and you have to restart, same with crysis core.
Actually, my main argument was actually going to be used for Crisis Core. I've played through this game entirely and I haven't had any lag or freeze ups. (What parts?) I can't say so much about GoW because I only got to the first boss (the fire guy). I'm not sure if it helps, but CWcheat has an option when you hold select to increase the CPU speed to 333 MHz (or whatever unit they use) and the bus speed (which, I have no idea what it does).
you dont need CWcheat for that, any CFW can clock the PSP to the full 333MHz from the recovery menu or the M33 vsh menu. GoW fatally freezes when you try to get the sun shield from the throne (only with CSO, fine with ISO). Crisis core fatally froze for me during the bahumut fight. But it all depends on the card you use, my 2GB sony mark II card runs CSOs fine, my standard 2GB card will also run most CSOs fine, my 8GB card freezes up on most CSOs, all of them are official sony. My sandisk 2GB also freezes with CSOs. all of them play ISOs and EBOOTs fine though lol.
I have a 4gig fake sony card from Hong Kong. You can't beat $15. Some CSO games work fine. Smackdown being my biggest problem.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (the one supplied by dmac) doesn't work well in CSO format. The videos tend to freeze or skip, but only at the point where it is first loaded. During the gameplay, it might skip if a cutscene is being introduced or a new enemy is appearing on screen. So just leave it as ISO.
The UMD is just as horrible trust me. Even when I converted my backup to ISO, it still had a little glitch, but it was very noticeable.
Outrun 2006: Coast to Coast will run as a CSO, but as you hit loading points in the game, you'll notice a couple of seconds worth of latency as it struggles to unpack the game from the image fast enough. I do think that differing levels of compression would affect the overall issue load people see per game. I'm fairly sure this copy of Outrun was highly compressed. If I felt like dealing with this computer over USB1 for this, I'd try lowering the compression some and see what happens.
The only games that I truly can't play in CSO are racing games simply because it won't load the rest of the map faster than you are driving. I can play most games if they have a slight skip, or a slightly longer loading screen time, but when it has a lot of lag due to loading, then I would use ISO. I'm not sure if the differing compression levels matter. I think just because it's in a compressed state, you'll always have that lag, however, it might not be as severe.
im sure the compression levels matter but as you said itll probably always lag, to play a CSO your PSP has to unpack it on the fly, whatever memory your psp has to use to unpack the CSO cant be used to play the game, the PSP only has 64MB, the more of that you have to use unpacking a CSO while you play the slower your game will run.
Huh, thats strange. I have had almost no slowdown at all in any game I play, and I play almost everything as a CSO. Crisis Core and God of War (though I didnt play that for more then an hour or so) have had no lag problems at all. My brothers official Sony 4 gig lags playing one of the megaman games, but my fakes work completely fine. lol. Also, I had thought that Jeanne D'arc worked fine as a CSO, ill have to go try that again to make sure. Edit: Yeah, Jeanne D'arc doesn't work, I guess I forgot to test that after compressing it. A well, ill just have to get it again.
The only game i have experience lag on is star ocean first departure. That only lags on the world map, have not tried it iso it might be the same. I have my games on a Sony 8gb stick.
