ok, i have searched around and found that CSO is supposed to be the best compression for psp games but i noticed the load times for some games spike and some will not load at all when compressed using this method, so i was hoping to find another method to save space and didnt have to worry about load times on the games

You're pretty much SOL on this...
If the game supports .cso and the load times are manageable, then go for it. Otherwise, you'll have to keep it in .ISO.

You can't get rid the load times issues after compressing the game, although there are other compression type, like .DAX, or .JSO,
I doubt there will be any differences among them, you can try compress the game using PSP ISO Compressor,
where you can determine the compression level for the game, the higher it is, the better. Still, lags/freeze issues may still occur.

well, from another piece i read, stated that DAX file format could compress without the
issues but not many firmwares support that file

also, i noticed this with a few games:

    1. Kingdom hearts BBS:
loads fine as ISO, when compressed as CSO, sometime the images for the keyblades
would not show and the load time went from a few seconds to about 3 minutes of load
    for me

    2. Dante's Inferno:
Loads great as ISO, compressed and it will not load at all for me

    3. Lords of Arcana:
no problems as ISO, constant freezing when compressed

    4. Naruto Shippuden legends:
this game ran like a charm as ISO, when compressed though some parts were
    unplayable

i read you could extract a clean ISO and repack it UMDgen and it would lower the size of it,
which so far it didn't do much for first 2 i mentioned but 3rd and 4th one went from 710 MB to 650 MB
and i haven't had any issues yet with this, so i will probably keep doing this method, but i wish
i could use the CSO compression method.

i would like to ask, would it have to deal with the type of Memory Stick you have for the PSP?

    edit:
ok, i have read about ripkits but those are nasty compared to compressing them, but i would like to know,
how bad would it be if, i ripped the music from the files?

i know it would make the ISO smaller but how bad would be the side effects of it?

Ripping the games would remove video/music from them. Things like cutscenes, etc. Then what's the point of playing them :)

It's easier just to grab a bigger memory card from your local mega-mart. I play with an 8GB card, usually only have 2-3 games on at a time. Remember, you can always delete games and keep the saves. Then just put the games on later if you want to play again, saves will still be there.

so ripping the stuff is a no-go, hey tirith, is the method i talked about any good?

using UMDgen to remove the dummy/padding files then rebuild it?

    Some notes.

-CSO is the most stable and known compression method, next is DAX but no one uses that...
-CSO games naturally load longer (you may already know this) because it uncompresses as it is read
-Extra memory card space can help, keep 500mb like I do
-Use official sony memory sticks where possible, If using those micro SD adapters expect great speed loss, if using a FAKE sony memory stick that would be 98% of the cause

To check, on the psp's menu (XMB) head to the memory card option (say like in the game menu) but dont click X on it, hit triangle, there is an option for magic gate.

No magic gate or unknown=you got crap

Just download an untouched iso...easiest option if you possibly can because that is alot of work.

well for me, this has helped save some space so far hypnos, also i was snooping around and found a new update for Prometheus but i haven't found anyone else saying anything, so i wonder if its fake?

edit: ok, i checked the memory card im using is magicgate supported from what it said on the screen

also, im using 5.50 prome-4 CFW on my PSP and well, i wanted to know if the links below this is real or fake and if it is real, could someone please explain in simple english how to install it, here is the links:

    http://pspcustomfirmware.com/18448/psp-custom-firmware-5-xx-prometheus-v0-5.htm

    http://pspcustomfirmware.com/18720/cfw-prometheus-4-psp-custom-firmware-prometheus-4.htm

    http://pspcustomfirmware.com/18486/cfw-5-50-prometheus-v6.htm

    First rule of updating.
Don't update unless you have to.

Both Prometheus are legit, and you don't have to use either one since you already using the latest version (the middle link).
FYI, those two are the same with -1 version, but much earlier release.

    Much agreed.

Are you sure your PSP is on Prom-4? since the latest Prom support up to 6.35 games, so it supposed to run even if you use the clean or patched ISO.
Mine is on Prom-2, and run the clean ISO without problem.

If it was a clean one, try patching it using ISO Tools.

ok, mega, needing help, how the heck do you install that tool?

I assume you didn't read the instructions, oh well.

Just place the iso_tools folder into your PSP's GAME folder, and run it through XMB, no need to worry about the other files.

ok, off the wall question, do you have a camera for your PSP, Mega?

cause i went and got the invizimals today and well, it has major issues since the camera will only stay on for like a few minutes then cuts off

nvm, i found out what to do, now, i have to re-edit my CFW im running in order to play this game >__>
