Why does Bowser turn into a goomba when he dies?

 

It was a fake bowser, that part hasn't changed, in each world except the final he turns into a lesser enemy when he dies.

I'm guessing you never played the originals?

 

play the original and beat bowser just spiting fire balls......same thing happens
