Hello, I'm curious about custom Firmware and I was wondering what it can generally do; emulation-wise etc. ;D And how I can convert the "Legal" PSP firmware 3.80 to the Dark Alex's M33 firmware. From what I've read, you need a Pandora Battery and a Magic Memory Stick, other resources tell me that I could use a "Jigkick" battery to emulate the Pandora Battery. Can someone set me straight in terms of what is needed to convert my 3.80 to any M33? Any answers are greatly appreciated. Thank you! :)

  2. seriously, don't freaking bother, it takes soldering skills if your only gonna do it with a white and not have access to a black psp, I broke my battery trying, its not worth it

Sorry, I should have mentioned it's a "phat" model. It's one of the IC100(x) types. I do know what you mean, though. The previous comments revealed a high quotient of failures when trying to solder the PSP. I'm hoping that maybe a Soft-Mod could do the trick... ???

  4. hmm....I'm not sure if its possible at firmware 3.80, let me check...

According to the accounts of some people can't you just remove your battery from the PSP and run the custom firmware? (Assuming it's running on an external power source.) I'm confused...Perhaps maybe you remove the battery, then run the magic memory stick? I really don't want to Hard-Mod the battery, nor do I want to purchase a Service-Mode Battery. :-\ Is there an alternative solution, or does what I've accumulated from the accounts of others work?? And would the files install correctly without a Pandora Battery; Initially, I thought the Pandora Files were distinctly for "UnBricking" a PSP. Anyone with a sense of direction please help me... ???

okay first you need to have a friend's psp that already runs custom firmware
then you get the various files needed for pandora battery/jigkick memory stick creator
then you follow the file directions on your friends CFW psp
after that, put the jigkick memory stick first, then the converted battery, it will automatically boot, then follow onscreen instructions.
find the CFW you want to install on your now 1.50 psp and install it.

i know this was a bit vague, so message me with your questions

Your explanation is very helpful, but there's a problem... I don't know anyone who has Custom Firmware, they're all too scared of bricking their PSP's. Is there any indirect method of just installing custom firmware from my current version??

    [Legal=bad]->My current version is Sony's "Evil" 3.80 firmware. :(

    Any help is appreciated!

Okay, I've been looking at the general idea of how to do this. Thing is it's really hard!
My Firmware is 3.80.-To go to M33, I require 3.80M33 which requires 3.50M33+.
To get the "Original" 3.50M33 I have to enable my PSP to Homebrew, to run the compatible M33 software.
To do that, I have to emulate a Pandora Battery by tampering with it's serial number-(EEPROM). Then run the formatted Magic Stick and downgrade it to what I think is 3.50 M33. Since I have no Homebrew-enabled consoles, I suppose the only other alternative is to get a service battery? ???Then create the files needed to upgrade to 3.90M33?? If there's any other way, please tell me...
    I wish PSP's were as easy-going a DS's(Flashcarts, ect..) :-\
Sorry to be bothersome...I'm just dying to play some PS1 ISO's...

firstly, if they follow the guide on this link: http://www.mypsp.com.au/GuideDetail.aspx?id=225
the psp will not brick. i guarantee it, i did it a week ago, twice, just for the fun of having the jigkick mem stick and a pandora battery.
plus those are the files they need in order to make the stuff and they can easily change it all back.

i have the files that need to be made from the link, just go to my profile and email a request and i will send you the files attached okay?

  10. can we get confirmation on that from another member?

when you did the battery conversion, did you flash backup?
    if not, you are screwed...
but i have a flash backup of mine, i can send it to you, and you'll be able to get the battery back from jigkick to regular

    just PM me

It probably would have been a good idea to use a Datel battery converter. That's what I used and it took about 2 seconds, and I can convert that very same battery back into it's primary function. Otherwise, I think you have to retrieve the batteries' number, or else you could buy a new one...

    Just to clear anything up.

Not hard. Takes about 5 minutes from start to finish.
