consciences are the little voice in the back of your head that tell you what is right, it is located in the "super ego", as described by sigmund freud. it is believed that 25% of the world population does not have one: 1/4. my question is do we need it?

i think we do need them. It tells us if we should do it or not. It wont be bad if we have it.

We do need them. Without a moral compass we won't be able to determine right from wrong and people would make wrong and rash decisions without thinking twice. If everyone did not have a conscience then we'd be almost part of the animal kingdom. Conscience is one of the things that separates humans from animals.

Also, without conscience we'd probably not be as civilized as we are today. We'd be like tribes almost, survival of the fittest.

Is conscience the same with reasoning?

In my opinion, conscience is very important, especially for politicians. But a person can live without it, like you said, 1/4 of the world has none of that and look at the world today, terrorism, mythlogical global warming, or other world dooming agents.

Technically we are part of the animal kingdom, and who's saying animals don't have a concience?

Also, do you really believe that humans are 'civilised'?

Kinda hard to study the presence of conscience in animals, so for all intents and purposes they don't have any such thing. It would only inhibit their survival. However, the lack of a conscience would inhibit our survival, I think.

Regardless of whether or not humanity can truly be considered "civilised", Nat said that "without a conscience we'd probably not be as civilised as we are today".

Ha, perfection is impossible so we'd never be completely civilized.

My opinion is that, they don't. In order to have a conscience, I believe you need to have some sort of sense of morality or good and evil. Animals are directed by their instincts, needs, and learned behaviors, not by a moral code.

Technically we are, although we have enough differences to separate between humans and animals. :\

Conscience is good to have, but it can also limit you. My friend had issues with doing things because he thought they were wrong. And it wasn't immoral things, it was like a fear of interuptting someone who was talking.
