Well I am not new to computers, but I really don't know much about them... I really want to know what most of this stuff means.

Like what's a duo core processor (1.83 GHz)

    What is a optical drive?

Like I want to know what are the basic terms for computers and what not, because I see them get tossed around a lot. (the phrases / words)

A processor is the main 'brain' of a computer, Core duo is a model of processor made by Intel. Dual core means there are actually two processors on the same chip, which allows the computer to do more things at once. The 1.83Ghz is the number of operations per second the processor is capable of (1.83 billion per second)

An optical drive is a device that reads optical media, such as CDs and DVDs.

I didn't know that about processors... so since mine is 700mhz, it can only do 700 million?

That's really interesting TBH. Also, for example, if I have a 120 gb HDD, does the processor have to be up to par?

Like, the GHz? (feels like a uber n00b) (MHz = megahertz?)

no, there is no connection between processor speed and harddisk capacity.

    also yes, Mhz is megahertz.

So I can have a 120 GB HDD with a low GHZ processor ?

Oh alright, I always thought that affected it somehow. Thanks for the help. :)

The hard disk must use an interface supported by the motherboard, and if the motherboard is really old it might not be able to support drives larger than about 32GB, but if thats the case then the computer is so old its not worth upgrading.

Oh alright so old pc's can't hold more than 32 GB?

And the motherboard has to be upgraded so you can actually use more memory?

very old PCs. Pentium II era, and possibly Pentium III. Computers from the last 4 years or so will not have any problem. Also be careful over your use of the word 'memory'. Memory (RAM) and hard disk are two different things.
