Tell me I'm not the only one who sees the similarity...
Is it all just an elaborate hoax??

I'm not from the states you see. Cannot be expected to know what he looks like but of course I know who he is. But there is some resemblance it seems to Mr. Myers. It is an older version of the "not so funny" Austin Powers actor. Nice spot.

I presume you live in a country with TV...

And what do you mean by not so funny...?
Mike Myers is one of the greatest comic actors of our generation...
    Well...my generation anyway...

    Two questions:
    • 1. Why would a TV channel broadcast about foreign politicians
    • 2. Why would I care about foreign politicians

  9. iamlegend

Because it is of an interest to people...
Why do TV channels broadcast news about the War in Iraq,
    or famine in Africa?
Why do they broadcast the latest season of Lost,
    or the latest Hollywood movies??

Because the American president is one of the most powerful men on the planet.
His successes and failures are reflected on a global scale.
The American economy is the most important globally..
The economic recessions currently being experienced by many countries
are directly linked to ****-ups in the American financial system

The price of a loaf of bread at your local store is probably as
high as it is because of a bill George Bush signed without reading ;D

    Any further questions??

Exactly. Believe it or not iamlegend, most people in the world DO NOT care about what is going on in America, no offence. We care about what is going on in our countries. I do not care about politics at all, let alone the politics of a nation such as the USA. War on Iraq is different from US presidential elections. And broadcasting entertainment shows has nothing to do with knowing who the latest political candidate is for the US presidency. True, his success or failure, most commonly the latter, is reflected upon a global scale but this is largely due to the fact that American government has this inferiority complex that makes interfere with situations that is none of their concern, and makes them believe to be superior to any other place out there. Just because America is involved in everything doesn't mean everyone likes it that way. Like I said, I personally do not care about that sort of thing. Oh and you may want to read up on your conspiracy theories.

Myers is not that funny. He uses mostly toilet humour to get a laugh which I do not see as a sign of talent. I'm not trying to argue with you or anything. This is just my personal opinion. Everyone is entitled to it.

Firstly, no offence taken....I'm not American.

The reason I made those comparisons with TV shows etc. was
because like the American election, these are things people are interested in,
and like it or not many people....I would venture even to say a majority of people,
have some interest in the outcome of the American presidential election.

You say the failures of the American government are reflected on a global scale
largely due to an "inferiority complex"??
Explain to me then, because I have some difficulty understanding,
how the current recession of the financial markets is due to an inferiority complex...

No matter how much you try to convince yourself otherwise,
America is involved in so many international issues not
because it is sticking it's nose where it's not wanted,
but because America is democracy and capitalism done right..
And this is recognized globally...thus countries come to America for aid...
whether it be economic, financial, military etc.

You state you don't take an interest in politics at all
Thus, to suggest that American politics doesn't affect global politics,
is not you making an informed observation is it?

If people didn't care about politics,
we'd still be running around throwing spears at each other

    Oh...
    How so?

I don't think you read my post properly as you are putting words into my mouth and evidently you have failed to think about what I have actually said.

Ok I must admit this is perhaps true and you have discovered a failing in my argument on this point. People do care about this but what I was trying to say is the reason they are interested in is because America impacts them so much and this is something they do not particularly like. I just am not happy about this kind of arrogance that some of America has that makes them think everyone has to know everything that is going on in their country and everyone has to love America so to speak. You have to admit that they do have this sort of mentality and their patriotism exceeds to such a point as to constantly reminding other nations of "how great America is". This is what I meant by inferiority complex and has nothing to do with markets and I did not say anything about markets. I mean for example, what business that America have interfering with what recently happened in Georgia and other such wars? Why are there troops stationed in Afghanistan and Iraq when their primary objectives have been achieved? This is what I meant by sticking their nose where it does not belong. However, back to the argument at hand, yes I guess you are right in saying that people are interested in what happens, but bear in mind that not all people are. All I am suggesting is it is a bit naive to think everyone HAS to know who that tosser is. Of course we do, but not necessarily what he looks like.

On the other hand, there is a reason I am not interested in politics. Obviously I must have some sort of knowledge to make such a decision and it is ignorant on your part to think I am arguing on a point I know nothing about. So evidently you did not think that through.

And the conspiracy theory thing, not to get into too much detail as this is not the place or the time, and your faith in the government system seems really high, but do you really think Mr. George W. runs the show? He is but a puppet and so will be the next president...

I think you'll find if you re-read my comments, that
at no point did I suggest you said or meant something you didn't...

You speak for who when you say this?
I would reckon that, for most
relations with the U.S have allowed them to prosper...

Now it's my turn to agree with you...
I would have called it a superiority complex...
But I don't think that kind of attitude in general manifests itself on the political stage...

Economics and politics are inextricably linked,
so when we talk about America's international relationships,
we must talk about economic factors because thats what many of these relationships are based on...

I suggest you read up on that particular conflict...
And besides...most of the international community were critical of Russia.
Many more so than the US...

I would have thought the objectives were to eliminate threats to the national security of the US...
And to create peace and install some form of democratic government in those countries...
I wouldn't call Iraq and Afghanistan peaceful democratic countries....

I don't think I'm out of line by thinking so....
It's quite absurd that someone with such strong views on American foreign policy,
would not know one of their two candidates just weeks before election day...
Especially when this campaign has had more media coverage than any other in history

    Ah...the Patriots is it? ::)

    I'm not interested in.

comparing famine and elections is like comparing holocaust and football

Eh? I should care about McCain, because George Bush is powerful?

Maybe because they rely to much on the USA.

    probably? - Your not sure.

Start a war to create peace?
Could be slogan of another leader of a country.

Why is democracy the best form of government?
    And yes not peaceful anymore.

    read his post

Don't be bloody ridiculous...you're taking my comments way out of context

Ask someone who has lived in a communist regime,
or under a dictator like Sadaam or Hitler...
    I sure they'll give a satisfactory answer...

Democracy is the only system proven to work while retaining economic stability
and the general happiness of the populous..

Because it was peaceful before with Sadaam going aroun gasing ethnic minorities

Don't bother posting if you're not going to make credible points

Are you trying to convince me of something? I think you have lost the plot here. All we said was that there is absolutely no reason why we should know who that guy is. And then you went of on a soliloquy about how important America is. What I said is I know it is important but THAT IS SOMETHING WHICH ANNOYS THE REST OF THE WORLD WITH AMERICA MAKING THEMSELVES SEEM SO FANTASTIC. I know this because I know many people and have listened to countless arguments on the matter and have read up on it. I don't see why I have to look into who the next president is going to be if I'm not interested. Then you have the audacity to make those funny faces as if I HAVE to know who said tosser is. I agree with Marcy here. In no way am I saying all Americans are so, in fact I know some cool Americans, but many are overly patriotic and America's influence on other countries is unnecessary.

You think the EU doesn't help countries? This has gone way out of bounds in relation to what any of us were trying to say. You really think America bomb Iraq because of they had a tyrant leader that is tormenting the population? Hell no. They have nothing to gain from that. Why the hell are they not doing anything about Mr. Mugabe up north of here in Zimbabwe then? He has been destroying that country for years. But there is nothing to make money from in Zimbabwe so America does not care about little meaningless nations where there is nothing to gain financially from helping them out.

Anyways I know you will reply again raising a different point so lets just drop it. I have my opinion you have yours. End of story. In conclusion, yes, Myers looks like a younger version of the other guy.

    Just a little thought though:
