We're already seeing this, what this story is talking about is a combination of the chapter system that Fable 2 just introduced and episodic content like Half Life 2.

Episodic content would work if it's within months at a time, because that was the point of episodic content. Little bursts of the game, and the content coming out quickly (obviously Valve, the people who introduced this, do it wrong). It's good and it's worth it, it also comes with a cheap price point. Games like the New Monkey Island, and Sam & Max do it well.

The chapter system that Fable 2 just introduced, I like it. I'm glad to know that I don't like the game, but that's only because I played the first couple hours of the game for free. This is a good thing as I didn't have to pay a cent for the game, and if I wanted to buy it, I could just buy all the chapters (they're cheap), or if I got bored of the game half way through, I could just not buy the rest of the chapters. The only downside to this is that it would cost the company money, because you're giving the fifth of the game away for free, and if someone decides to stop playing during the middle of the game. The company doesn't get the rest of the 60$ or so for the purchase of the rest of the chapters. There isn't a downside for the consumer though.

A combination of the two, I can't see happening. Releasing a part of the half finished game is silly, because the rest of the game would take more than a couple of months to complete. I like the price point if it's half of the game, but otherwise I can't see this happening. And if it does happen, I expect something like Half Life 2 Episode 3. Anyone not familiar with the Half Life episodes can see the release date for Episode 2 and compare it the the TBA release date of Episode 3.

Ultra, if you want to continue bashing the hardcore, give your reasons as to why. Or move it to the Xbox 360 vs PS3 vs Wii topic. I don't even know where you get this "yet the hardcore is in so much support for this". Even the comments in the article shows doubt. Ooooh, I get it, this is one of your baseless assumptions. Going as far to call them retards give us a good indication of what type of maturity and intelligence that you have, a long with your punctuation and capitalization.

the purpose of the article is to show that game developers and publishers will make retail games. however, these games are not complete. have you noticed when you compare games today to several years ago, you'd find more stuff on the older games as you do today. so what will end up happening is that the core games is made. but then multiplayer features or other typical features you'd typically find from previous games will be cut off. later in the future, the company will make that feature as a downloadable content. then later on in the future again, you'll find additional upgrade pack and another and another and another.

can you imagine having to buy a resident evil 6 type game and the game has only the main playing feature. then sometime in the future, capcom releases the mercenaries for download. then again another new add-on and another one again.

No where in the article mentions that devs will do this. This article is someone speculating that it might happen. There will be a few games using this but I can't see it viable since there's still people without internet connections or fast enough internet connections to download these packs. What this is, is just making the same thing as episodic content, except you pay for the next few levels, and if you want you can get more microtransactions (which will probably be something little like, costumes or cheats or something).

I'd much rather have the full retail game on shelves, but with this sort of thing they're describing here, I can buy part of the game for 20$ or so, and if I either don't like the game, or get bored of it, I don't have to buy the rest of the game. As with the Fable 2 thing, except I pay for the first part of the game.

Also, older games don't have this because the tech wasn't available. I bet if there was a way that Ninty could of made a lot of money with that Satellite Zelda game for the SNES, they would have.

Capcom already did that Resi 5 thing. You had to buy multiplayer, and they have another chapter add on pack coming out soon. Oh, the multiplayer sucked too.

Also explain your reasoning behind "yet the hardcore is in so much support for this. what a bunch of retards!". You didn't answer it.
