our society functions on capitalism, but in order for capitalism to work, we need to have a lot of resources to keep it going. a scientist did a test to determine this, and he says we will only last another 800 years unless a drastic change is made to our lifestyles. post your two cents
I'm not getting the explanation from Wiki.... It means a free market Ideology? I'm pretty sure I've heard of capitalism once, but I can't seem to remember what it means
To sum things down as simplified as possible: Walmart is a classic example of capitalism. Your town's diner is not. It's basically an economic system where general market power is in the hands of one of few companies that employ many people. To try to protect itself against capitalism, my town rejected a walmart. It was in hopes of increasing the small businesses here. Unfortunately, this whole area is economically depressed, so we all just go take a 10 minute drive to the next state over and buy shit from walmart there. No sales tax there either. I rambled from definition to a story.
a diner is a example of capitalism, any establishment is. its the trade of goods for money. we are using our resources at an extremely fast rate, so what happens when it runs out..... :'( of course, this wont be for 800 years or less but it might start in our life time.
