A friend of mine got his DS modded or something like that and It seemed really cool that he could play downloaded DS games. I have a Nintendo DSi and I was wondering how I could do something like that. My questions are:

    1. How do I mod my DSi?
    2. What accessories/parts are needed?
    3. Whats the cost?
    4. What is the best product for modding DSi's?
    5. Where can I get it?
    6. How do I put games onto my DSi once I have the materials?

    Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

P.S: I accidentaly put this topic in the wrong board (I think...) so I will re-post it in the correct one. Moderator please lock this if you see neccessary. Sorry for the Inconvenience :-[

Someone will move this later-they can move topics you know :)

Ok, it's not as hard as you think, you just need a flash cart, an sd cart and if your dsi's firmware is on 1.4, for the flash cart to have the work around update.

    www.acekard.com

Get the 2.i, check out the resellers list for where to buy online (if you were australia I'd just give you my shop).

My card cost 40AUD and a 2gb micro sd is about 20AUD (use currency converters to see your local price).

The system it's self doesn't need to be modded, unlike the old days when the first flash carts came out...which sucked :(

Just plug in and play (with a few downloads for the flash cart ie games, firmware and updates to keep it running).

Thanks a tonne. One question though, how do you know what firmware your DS is on?

Bumping this instead of starting a new topic - does it matter which type of Nintendo DS you have - for example, I remember hearing that some of the newer ones were unmoddable?

Going from the above, I buy http://www.wii-chip.co.uk/products/AceKard-2i-For-NDS-%26-DSi.html then get a standard Micro-SD, follow a tutorial on how to set up the chip and bobs your uncle?

It just seems too easy xD

    pretty much.
i don't think ther is any ds that is unmoddable, i know the dsi needs a diferent kind of card, but i have no clue about the new big one.
    good luck

Ah ok. Sort of vague though ;)

I'm wondering if there's a "standard bearer" for these cards. Like the Acekard 2i above - is that a "good" one?

I have to stress I'm a complete novice to all this so if anyone can point me towards the relevant tutorial about how to mod a DS from Point A to Point Z that'd be appreciated!

    I mean a total, unbelievably noob-based tut. ^^

For example, does ANY SD card go with ANY of those... Acekard thingies etc? As in, http://www.wii-chip.co.uk/products/8GB-Micro-SD-Card.html is an 8gb one - would that be a good idea or is there such thing as "too" big an SD Card.

    1. Buy an AceKard2i
    2. Micro SD card from an electronic store (i recommend a 4gb, but a 2GB is good)
    3. It depends on the website, sorry i don't remember the website
    4.
    5.
    6. Micro SD card Reader, it comes with the flashcart

    1. You buy a Flashcart
    2. A Flashcart and a MicroSD card
    3. Depends on the Flashcart and MicroSD card you buy and where you buy them.
    4. There are a couple out there, but I recommend an Acekard 2i. You can buy them at $20-30, so they're pretty cheap.
    5. This question can be easily answered with Google. I recommend either http://www.Realhotstuff.com or http://Dealextreme.com
    6. There are plenty of tutorials on Youtube. There are also more if you search on Google. Here's one I quickly searched and found useful, http://www.zimbio.com/Nintendo+DS+Lite/articles/smItpVh06PA/Step+Step+tutorial+set+up+acekard+2i
