First you will need an emulator.
ePSXe is recommended, start out with this tutorial here:
    https://www.romulation.org/forum/index.php?topic=8528.0

That should get you off to a good start. You'll want the plugin pack found here as well:

i downloaded everything i was told to download, but when i click on the ePSXe emulator, it says:

This application has failed to start because zlib1.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

where do i extract zlib1.dll? i did download it..

Did you read the tutorial, it is covered in detail there, and even provides a link, and tells you to put the dll in the ePSXe folder :)

Thanks for you help =] one last question (hopefully) - to do with the ePSXe config.

I was following all the instructions with config.
When i got to CDR config wizard, i selected P.E.Op.S. CDR Driver 1.4. like the tutorial told me to.
I pressed config button like the tutorial told me to and then selected my drive. [E:].
When i press 'ok', it tells me to select the 'read mode'.

Which option do i select from the read mode? i tried auto-detection but it doesn't work.
    :p

Personally I just keep it as the core 1.7.0 plugin.

When using ISOs and such downloaded from this site, the CD Plugin doesn't matter.

You shouldn't encounter any issues with it otherwise.
