The first Star Ocean was never made for the Playstation, the second one was which is probably the one you're talking about.

Which emulator are you using to play the game on?

Check that, there are several ones, which I suppose are the ones you're talking about. Choose which one you want.

Probably using Snes9x or ZSNES for the SNES version he's talking about. Hopefully you're using the graphics pack.

yup the 1.51 version... or 1.5.1 i think...

  12. Best bet is to pick up ZSNES (tiny, fantastic emulator) and grab the original translation from DeJap. Don't tie yourself to the PSX, there are a lot of really great works out there for this platform like FF5 and 6, and the impossible but entertaining Romancing SaGa series.

I must say SNES9x is better than ZSNES, I had ZSNES crashing a lot of times when I accelerated some games, the sound just stopped, there was no sound, but the game kept going on, then 5 seconds later the graphics were also frozen, I had to reset the emulator. It happened several times, not just once or twice. SNES9x is way better, use it.

  14. That's funny - I've used ZSNES ages and never had any problems with it. Tried 9x but I got on with ZSNES a lot better - the interface is cleaner and more intuitive. Then again my favourite Final Fantasy is FF8 (bit of a chore with magic, but the refinement system mediates the pain) so my opinion tends to stray from the norm.

    ...

I'm using an old, old machine - maybe your computer is so new and fast that the speed of data traffic breaks ZSNES? Have you tried using it in conjunction with CPUKiller to limit the speed boost? Are you running it windowed or fullscreen? I personally go fullscreen with Super Eagle.

    Finally, what games broke it?

GameID! GameID's usually cause problems like this and such... See if you can change it, if so google for the ID

  16. Sorry, what? Could you put that in context?

Try downloading ZSNES from http://www.emulator-zone.com/files/emulators/snes/zsnes/zsnesw151.zip and download Star Ocean for SNES from Romu.  When you extract it, there are various files, so use this one: Star Ocean (J) [T+Eng1.0_DeJap] (.smc file, pay close attention to that). It's the one I used.

I downloaded Star Ocean fomr RomU here, and I am now using ZSNES, as SNES9x doesn't work now anymore, for some odd reason. I started playing (and I'll keep doing so, it addicted me), and so far, it hasn't crashed. I just arrived in the past, when they go to the time gate and go back 300 years. When did yours crash?

Snes9x is WAY better than ZSNES. I recommend it highly. See if you can get the partly translated version, and make sure to get the graphics pack, as you can load it from Snes9x.

    erm... i crashed when...

after the girl sneezed because someone was talking about her...

about way early in the game...

man was that one huge sneeze... :( :( :(

  20. Sometimes games just crash. Is this persistent behaviour in the emulator? Get DeJap's translation first and foremost - the only thing untranslated is, um, the Yes/No buttons in dialogue.

If it's persistent, either fiddle with the settings or try another emulator. If that doesn't work then you're in trouble.
