I had tried to burn a dreamcast .mds with Alcohol 120% going by a guide I found I got about half way through the burn and it gave an error and stopped, ejected the disc thus making a nice "coaster". I downloaded a demo verson of Alcohol v1.98 but it wouldn't let me reduce the burn speed it was either x24 or max I also set it RAW/DAO my question is would I need a full version because to reduce the burn speed (I read x12 or lower is best) or could it just had been a bad disc? I have no problems at all burning .cdi with discjuggler but I couldn't find a .cdi for the game could there be a program that might convert the .mds and mdf files to .cdi? Thanks in advance for any info.
Re: Burning .mds with Alcohol 120% problem. What error does it give you? The error would tell you (and us) what exactly is wrong. You could also use ImgBurn. It's a good, free, software that accepts MDS/MDF files.
Re: Burning .mds with Alcohol 120% problem. Dreamcast CDs cannot be burned with normal software, you need to use pardus discjuggler with a compatible CD burner.
Re: Burning .mds with Alcohol 120% problem. @ TirithRR I thought I had saved the log, but I didn't I will try it again and see if I get the error again and post it. but I may just try the imgburn insead and see how that goes. @Loony yes I learned that on a previous post I had bought up a few weeks ago https://www.romulation.org/forum/index.php?topic=13186.0 And I have DiscJuggler and a compatable drive and as far as I have learned you can only burn dreamcast games that have the tag of .cdi and nothing else which I have done with total success save for 1 (out of 15) and that was my fault for not setting it up right. but now I am seeing tags ending in either .mds/.mdf (which I was told to use Alcohol 120% with) but now I may try Imgburn. and a few that end in .bin/.cue (was told to use Cdrwin for those) so far I have been getting the .cdi files but I got one that I couldn't find a .cdi for so that where I am stuck. I'd would rather find all of the games in .cdi but I don't think that will happen.
Re: Burning .mds with Alcohol 120% problem. ImgBurn can't burn Dreamcast games. I didn't realize that's what you were doing when I posted.
Re: Burning .mds with Alcohol 120% problem. Ah thats ok, i'm about to say the hell with it and stick to .cdi and discjuggler having alot of success with it anyway skiping one won't kill me, just figured I would ask thanks anyway guys. ;D
Re: Burning .mds with Alcohol 120% problem. I tried it again and I got the speed down here is what the log report gave me....(the line with a * by the time date I edited some personal info) This is using Alcohol 120% 1.98 trial version Percent 42.3% Block/Speed 145462 (284.1 MB) / 10.2X Elapsed Time: 00:04:22 ####################### Dumping/Recording Progress Log ####################### ********* Time stamp of this log file: 4/23/2009 1:00:02 AM ********* 01:00:02 Processor info: AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-58 x 2 (1600MHz) 01:00:02 Memory Available to Windows: 981,172 KB 01:00:02 Memory Buffer size: 256 MB *01:00:03 Image file loading: X:\xxxxx\xxxx xxxx\Desktop\folder 1\folder 2\folder 3\ folder 4\Speed Devils.mds 01:00:03 Source Info: Session: 2, Track: 10, Length: 671.6 MB / 76:24:34 01:00:42 (E PIONEER DVDRW DVR-K17(0:0): Recording Method/Speed 01:00:42 Recording - RAW DAO - 10X (1500 KB/Sec) (E PIONEER DVDRW DVR-K17(0:0): RAW DAO Write Mode - RAW-PW(96) 01:00:45 (E PIONEER DVDRW DVR-K17(0:0): BURN-Free activated 01:04:25 (E PIONEER DVDRW DVR-K17(0:0) - [Write Lead-In area ERROR]: 142006 - 151005 S:KEY - 03/0C/00 - "Write Error" 01:04:25 (E PIONEER DVDRW DVR-K17(0:0): Recording failed! 01:04:25 Error message: [03/0C/00] - Write Error 01:04:25 (E PIONEER DVDRW DVR-K17(0:0): Recording failed! 01:04:25 Image file loading aborted! 01:04:28 Something is wrong with the recording procedure! Please check the log file and report any errors to Technical Support. ############################################################################## I'm starting to think it may have been a bad upload because it burns to 42% and I get the errors you read above and when I burned it before it was the same thing. Anyway if you can figure it out good luck, not too worried about it but it would be nice to atleast know what went wrong and I am not wasting CDs if I can keep from it. ;D
I doubt its a bad upload, dreamcast CDs have a reduced gap between tracks of data (meaning you can get more data on the CD, but very few writers can write them, and most software cannot. Come to think of it, ripping dreamcast CDs to formats other than .cdi may not work if it doesnt store the track spacing information.
I agree with that one I got a friend in on the action and he got an .ISO of a dreamcast game and DiscJuggler picked it up but when her burnt it off it just popped up as an audio track. and then my problem thats been stated already. if it's not .cdi for discjuggler I am not fooling with it. So anyway I guess I will not play Speed Devils unless I find and actual one that was ripped by DiscJuggler.
Took a bit but I finally got it figured out how to get Speed Devils working (and a few other games I got ahold of) I tried to download another verion of it and it ended up being an .nrg file DiscJuggler will read those so I tried burning it and it failed so then I mounted the image on the virtual drive and ripped it with DiscJuggler then burnt it with DiscJuggler worked like a charm. So I am set if I get .cdi/.iso/.cue/.bin/and .nrg from now on and now I got it figued out its odd how actually simple it is.
You shouldn't need to rip it first if it's mounted on a virtual drive, just do a disc-to-disc copy. Asty
reason I ripped it with DiscJuggler was because the image was a .nrg (that wouldn't play after I burnt it) so when I ripped it, it turned it into a .cdi file and now it works.
