Hi there. I got a PSX from way back, which has also been modded way back. Recently I dug up Final Fantasy IX from way back and started playing. But when I got to CD 4... BAM! The CD has too many scratches and freezes once I try to load the game. I've been all over the nets downloading CD4 in both PAL and NTSC, and I've gone and got myself lots of software to extract, burn images, and even emulate the images to test them. Here's the deal. These newly burnt CDs are perfectly fine images that work on ePSX, but they freeze one I pop them into my real PSX. I don't get further than where the black screen is supposed to show the old PSX logo. I don't see the logo, and I only see two "d"s of the text, as well as the SCEEtm line. The sound finishes, but I am truly stuck at that screen... So: do you know if my old PSX might have problems with newly-manufactured types of CD-Rs? Or: could I transfer the save data from the memory card over to my PC?
You could try sending the memory card data to your pc..but let's use the easier options. 1.What exact format you after, pal or nstc? 2.WHat img burning program are you using? 3.What is the brand of the cd's? 4.What disc speed are you burning on?
Re burn on disc speed 1x, burn on a dvd-r using IMGburn, and use the same region as your other discs.
First I downloaded PAL because my PSX is PAL. But the disc I was supposed to have used, is NTSC, so that's what I went for last, and that's what I'm going to try to use. I've been burning through Daemon Tools (the only program I've tried that can seem to understand this specific .iso file) on 24x. I'll try to get IMGburn and go for 1x. The brand is Imation.
guys like you are gonna make me go and create a tutorial, burn the games at 8x, the game will run perfectly, most of the time, at worst what you will see are slightly delayed cutscenes, for changing discs, you will need a spring that feets on the upper rigth part of were you inserts your CD's, meaning, see that little pointy thing the PSX has and a button below, insert the point of the spring there then put the spring around the pointed part, when you are going to change discs, simply do this, wait until the "insert X disc" screen shows up, now if it does not runs do this, remove the spring but no the CD, push the button until it says loading now dont relase the button that fast but quikly insert the spring and shut down the cover of the PSX, it should start the game and not only that but you wont get black screen.
Dude you left your reply in the quote, there is a tutorial but most people don't read them. 1x speed is advised. Keep to daemon if your used to it, but LOWEST speed like 1x is advised to minimise errors. Make sure the disc are infact of the same region ie if using an official pal disc, use a copy to link with but of pal region, pal swapping with nstc doesn't work. Everything else seems right, brand etc
a) 1x potentially has more chances to produce errors, i know it by experience i have been burning games by 2 years 1x is not a good idea with a PSX maybe a 360 or a wii, but no more than those the PSX for some reason will have serious troubles reading a disc burnt at 1x. b) get yourself a maxell disc, they are the best kind of disc in the market and burn most things via toast titanium.
Do I really have to use the swap trick when the machine is modded? I'll get around to trying it, though my PSX has played other regions and un-original CDs before. I hadn't thought of starting from one of the other discs. Just now I tried it for the one that should be okay (NTSC, like the other three), if only I hadn't burnt it on 24x. It didn't work. So I'll try the swap trick, and if that doesn't work, I'll burn a new one on 4x, which is so far the average of your recommendations.
What the hell? 90% of people advise slowest speeds possible, and the only time a disc failed at 1x is because I have a clumsy habit of knocking the external drive... Latly though I find 4x isn't bad, though if it fails 1x doesn't let me down. And maxell...I only see those in market places, cheaper than the tdk/sony disc I use and so far...the results for me haven't been too good. You shouldn't need to do the swap trick, but it's better than nothing... While 24x isn't advised, if the other disc work and one doesn't, it could mean it just failed. Of course not everyone has 100 blank sony brand disc to just throw away Dumb the speed of the burn to at least 4x.
Just use default speed for burning. Different CD-R/DVD-R or CD/DVD ROM Driver produces different result. Usually Verbatim is okay.
for me 1x has been a missery all these years, i once bougth around 30 discs, burned 4 of thsoe (Parasite Eve 1 CD1 and 2 then Parasite Eve 2 CD 1 and 2) i ended losing all my 30 discs on both games, the PSX needed no more than 300 attempts to read a disc, then i switched to 8x, PSX now reads them rigth off the bat. maxell maybe cheap but it the best disc ATM, im finding several other brands being of low quality. a) yes for 2 disc games its a must in order for them to run,a s far as my experience goes, Chrono cross, PArsite eve games, and other 2 CD games that lack of a save function pre disc change must be done like that. b) try 4x or 8x,s eems that every PSX is ppricky when it comes to wich speed the disc needs to be burned
Are you saying some hardware might be unfit for burning PSX games? I might, in that case, heighten my chances by burning from a different computer this time... Since this has gone wrong two times already, I'd like to use CD-RWs for retries. But I'm sceptical -- would the PSX be able to tell? In fact, the discs I've used to far, I've gotten from my neighbour. I don't want to waste more of hers. And the nearest vendor has a broad selection of Sony brand CDs. That, and Traxdata. I think I'll go for Sony.
Don't use cd-rw, the psx won't be able to read those. Another cd driveto burn with...is worth a shot, my built in drive wasn't burning too well, thus my external drive was purchased and did a better job And sony is good.
