i got that when i tried to open an rmvb movie file of eureka 7 - pocketful of rainbows...

i converted it and then it was fine.

what media player are you using and what kind of files are you trying to play?

I usually use Media Player Classic. I tried opening them with Windows Media Player and iTunes as well. I'm not sure what file type they are, it just says "file" in the type thingI know they're video files though, because before the blue screening started happening I could open one of them fine.

mplayer is one of my favorite video/audio players. it is compatible with almost every audio and video format on the internet. (almost)

Ah, okay. I'll try converting them and if that doesn't work I'll mplayer.

you can get the lightweight portable version here - http://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/mplayer_portable

very useful and won't take up as much space as official release of mplayer.

My internet is too slow to download updates. There are so many updates I need to install, I haven't got the latest service pack :-\

then how are you downloading videos...

and that could very well be your problem. just let it run over night and then install the next morning.

Let your PC update overnight, and then try VLC player

It's a lot easier to download videos then updates (I only download small vids), no where near as big and I can use a download manager.
I haven't updated my computer in like a year. That's how many I need to download, and whenever I download with Windows Update it was freezes up and stuff, my max download speed is 6 kb's a second, so it'd take a lot longer then one night.

Alright, so I'll download VLC now & try using mplayer and VLC on Monday (I'm busy on the weekend).
