Hey guys i've been asked by a friend to look at his laptop and it seems to me that it's pretty much dead but i thought i'd see if you guys know anything that could help. He said it was working up until a few weeks ago when he switched it on and it started turning itself off at the windows loading screen. I've tried going through safe mode but it just wont get past the windows loading screen at all. I've even tried loading the laptop up with the windows XP disc but just when it's loaded all the necessary drivers and gives you the options to continue it goes to a blue screen and stands there. The blue screen is just a generic hardware problem screen, the error codes are as follows: technical information : *** STOP: 0X0000007E (0XC0000005, 0XF8540BF, 0XF8994208, 0XF8993F08) *** pci.sys - address f85480bf base at f8451000, datestamp 3b7d855c Like i said it wont get past the windows loading screen. When i tried loading up the windows setup with the disc was the only time the blue screen stayed up before it restarted. Other times it just flashed the blue screen and restarted. I suspect he may have dropped the laptop. In the error message there are a few lines about checking the hardware vendors bios updates "try changing the video adapters." and "check to be sure you have the adequate disc space" and "if a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturers for a driver update.". Any help would be much appreciated.
sounds like damaged hardware. If it has a wireless card in it (or any other devices) remove it and try again, but my guess would be something on the motherboard is damaged, in which case he needs a new one.
lol man you weren't wrong. I popped open the HD hatch to see how big the HD is and there is rust INSIDE the latop. I think that "may" have something to do with it. that and the following pictures: He showed me the power pack AFTER trying to see what was wrong with the laptop.
Cheers loony, i was gonna swap it out with an old HD i have but he took the laptop when he went home yesterday and decided he'd just buy a new one....the rust was on the pins which fix the battery in to the laptop and from the looks of it all around the motherboard next to the battery pack. Cheers again loony!
