Sure many people have those boring white chatpads, sure they do what you need them for, but what about those with Elite360's or black controllers? If you're like me all you need is: Can of black spray paint (I heard Vinyl Spraypaint works best) Torex T9 Bit #0 Screw Driver 10-15 minutes Now, this isn't going to be a step by step guide completely. To disassemble the chat pad you only have 4 torex screws, 5 phillips screws and one plug. For those more 'intense' modders, I got some pictures of the circuit board. If you want more or higher quality ones just do a search and you can find a few sites featuring them. I don't have any of the other side because I didn't work with the grey plastic surrounding the keys, mainly because I didn't want to have to reassemble the letters. To take the controller apart you take the four torex screws out of the back. (None under stickers.) Then on the 'bottom' pull out and the clips will pull apart and just pull up and you can see that it's similar to the top and just pop it out. You will need a little force for this. For the connector that plugs into the controller you just need to pull out those silver tabs and lift it out of there and disconnect it from the board. Then you have a screw in each corner of the board and one in the center to take out. Just push out the keypad from behind and it should pop out. Now you're left with the shell which you can go ahead and paint whatever color you want! I was boring and went with black though. (Thinking about making the key pad silver, just need to go get the paint.) So, here is the finished product!
Now to be the picky bastard that I am, what exact color black did you use to match the controller? I'm not a paint expert, but I know there's different shades of black and in different finishes. edit: Vinyl spraypaint doesn't really tell me anything... again, not a paint expert.
I didn't find anything to actually match the color. It was actually a really old spray can of flat black in my garage. I'm not sure if vinyl paint would actually be the best though, that is just what I heard. But it refers to the composition of the paint, you will see at the store they have regular, plastic (probably a good choice in this case), engine paint, ect.
The black that you have matches really nicely. The gray keyboard actually fits well also. I don't think it would've looked nicer with an all black look.
Someone did it before. But I am contemplating a silver coat over the keyboard frame. Might look good, might look horrible.
I prefer the sleek white but a cool project anyways. If you want to paint the frame of the keyboard gray, make sure you have contrast between that and the gray in the keys, otherwise it will look rather bleh. Good look though, makes me want to take on a recolouring project like this.
That actually looks pretty good. And for your other statement, it depends on the silver. Too much silver shine to it (like those tacky N64 gold controllers) makes it look really bad and fake looking. If anything, get a brushed silver.
