Today emo is commonly tied to both music and fashion as well as the emo subculture. Usually among teens, the term "emo" is stereotyped with wearing skinny jeans, sometimes in bright colors, and tight t-shirts (usually short-sleeved) which often bear the names of emo bands. Studded belts and black wristbands are common accessories in emo fashion. Black Converse sneakers and skate shoes, such as Vans, are popularly worn among people of the emo fashion. Some males also wear thick, black horn-rimmed glasses. The emo fashion is also recognized for its hairstyles. Popular looks include long side-swept bangs, sometimes covering one or both eyes. Also popular is hair that is straightened and dyed black. Bright colors, such as blue, pink, red, or bleached blond, are also typical as highlights in emo hairstyles. Short, choppy layers of hair are also common. This fashion has at times been characterized as a fad. In the early 2000s, emo fashion was associated with a clean cut look but as the style spread to younger teenagers, the style has become darker, with long bangs and emphasis on the color black replacing sweater vests. Emo has been associated with a stereotype that includes being particularly emotional, sensitive, shy, introverted, or angst-ridden. It has also been associated with depression, self-injury, and suicide. : says Wikipedia. I says that it's some hypocritical bullshit. Is this what emo means , or there is more to it? Discuss...
Emo is now just a term you slap unto something. E.G. "Dude, you're so emo!" "Hey, this band, they sound so emo." Emo's definition is now utterly blurred by the fact that from where it came from, it's current state is very farfetched. Emo I believe started in DC. With the first wave of emo bands like Sunny Day Real Estate. They did not sport very tight jeans, or one sided haircuts. But now look what happened? Who's to say what's emo and what's not?
my thoughs is that being emo. is a awful state that some follows they actually lives in pain and alone. they dress like that to express what they are feeling, but they are human beings so we have to help them to overcome the odds...
I have nothing against emo people. I just think that the society in wich we reside today, fucked them up pretty good. I pity them for what the world is doing to their heads.
Another cent I got. People label people who wear black, skinny jeans, sport tight shirts, and vans or chucks Emo. Isn't that quite brash to judge? Just because someone might like the color, or likes the feeling of ball hugging jeans doesnt mean theyre emo.
nah.. real emos are very sensitive to songs.. if u are dressed emo and you don't care to a touching song then ur not one.
Emos are a bunch of whiny bastards who keep complaining about how much their lives suck and they simply choose to mope around and do nothing to improve their situation. They don't deserve any pity.
Emo=Emontional. It comes from a musical style from 1980 with rock groups such as Rites of Spring and Embrace, the music consists of melodic and emotional riffs and lyrics. Most people think the music started a few years ago,but actually started before the rebirth of blues(Stevie Ray Vaughn) and the start of grundge(Nirvana)
None of them ask for pity anymore, and non-emos don't have to care. There are those few who write and sing and play music, I mean, that's something. Emo's are no different from Punks. It's a lifestyle. I mean, sometimes Emo's could be a better contribution to society since they're not known to be destructive and what not. It's just their choice, and if it bothers you, go ahead. I just choose to be passive. One more thing. People who were Emo 5 years ago are not Emo today. It's evident that for some it's just a trend.
that was what Emo used to be, Emo today is a lable for attention seeker that cut themself for attention.
