Lately my PC is giving me a lot of trouble. When I switch it on, the inbulit mainboard speaker beeps(three beeps). After several I managed to get its started but it would nice to know whats causing it.

what kind of bios do you have? (award, AMI, phoenix etc). Should say somewhere on the screen when you start up, probably top left corner during the memory test.

    long beeps? short beeps?

Three long beeps and as for the bios I'm not sure. On the BIOS version it says MQ96510J.86A.1687.2007.0510.0258

That's an Intel bios version, if I am correct.
It could be a memory error.

    Intel don't make bioses.

bios version doesnt help, I need the name of the company that made it

I also tried dxdiag. The system information show this.

I might guess that it has something to deal with this, I think?

And the only BIOS maker I am aware of is Phoenix.

phoenix is owned by award, who also make bioses. american megatrends (AMI) is another, and a company called insyde seem to make laptop bioses

the error might be memory related, it might not. Until we identify the bios we can't know.

What is the brand/model number of the PC?
If it's not a custom build of course.

Try reseating the ram or try some others if you have extra.

Sorry, Loony, but this is definitely Intel: PDF with version information for specific BIOS

Note the exact BIOS version listed in the document. It's just standard BIOS as far as the document says.

Edit: A little Googling tells me this is likely to mean that they are AMI BIOS, actually, which would mean that with three beeps, you have a memory failure in the first 64KiB of RAM. And here are solutions: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000996.htm

Also just noticed that this was a month old bump. Fucking new users. I would assume the topic starter found their solution elsewhere by now.
