I've recently began using u-torrent as many others here says it's the best.

I've been using it to download South Park episodes & am now starting MP3 downloads, then it hit me...

Are viruses passed on via torrents? That is do I run the risk of getting hit AGAIN by something like the *&!@#!!! sasser worm??

Some viruses are on torrents, but they're always safe if you get them from certain sites as they scan them. I've been torrent downloading Naruto of Mininova and they don't have viruses whatsoever.

I haven't gotten any bad torrents from mininova or Demonoid as of yet, so i would suggest you use them.

You should download from dattebayo.com, one of the primary subbers of Naruto, and most likely where Mininova got their episodes. Anyways, I heard somewhere (either from Loonylion or someone else, most likely Loonylion), that BitTorrent is the safest of all the P2P sharing protocols.

Yeah I downloaded Naruto Shippuden off dattebayo, but normal Naruto off Mininova. Slight error.

How about ISOHunt is that place good??

I'm asking 'cause I've seen a torrent there that has the complete album series of my favorite 80's band Depeche Mode, actually the torrent I saw was the most complete yet

I've downloaded some games off there and no viruses in them, so they're pretty good.

.torrent files are rarely viruses as they aren't executed as such except by your torrent client, so any exploit would be based on a faulty torrent client. As for the actual content being a virus, well that variable from torrent to torrent and no tracker is better than any other since scanning the content would require the sites to download it, and they most likely track several thousand terabytes of data.

And it's true that torrents are safer than normal P2P programs such as LimeWire due to the fact that torrents are decentralized. Meaning that there are several servers tracking files instead of just one server. So it's more work for anti-piracy groups to keep track of all of them. With that said though, if you use a large popular tracker such as MiniNova or isoHunt then that advantage is practically null and void since those are monitored quite heavily.

So stick to lesser known trackers and new torrents without too many peers and always use PeerGurdian for optimal safety.

By the way, has peerguardian gone out from being beta??

When someone adviced me to get it, it was still in beta & sometimes crashed so I un installed it

most of them are not if you download stuff such as keygens and or cracked you run the risk of getting infecting so keep you anti-virus and anti-spyware up to date and that should keep you mostly safe but you can still get hit with virus or a Trojan (most keygens are classified as Trojansby anti-virus software ) so be careful what you download (even if a free full version of photoshop sounds cool ::))

Also, make sure that you read comments for a torrent; a lot of times if there is a virus or something in the downloaded material, someone will post a comment saying it's not safe (assuming it's not a recent torrent).

Nah! I don't intend to download stuff like that, I only plan on getting Full album MP3s of my favorite bands

Mind you though, like the Depeche Mode albums, some of the albums I'll be getting I actually used to have Audio cassettes of, which were either borrowed, stolen or have lost quality through the years

Plus I've heard there are even rarities on torrents ;D

I'm not sure if you can ask for an invite or not, but you have just hijacked a thread and gone off topic, which is against the [rules].

cahos use btjunkie.org it has comments and it has reports from downloaders good, bad, virus etc.

if your looking for music it might be better to look for it by google-ing the album you want and the shove rapidshare or megaupload on the end, it most of the time will find what you want and DL faster.
or try see if what you want is here http://www.killthemusica.blogspot.com/
