No fanboy-ism or hateful comments towards the other company. Both OS systems are great! This topic/thread is only to discuss the matter if Apple computers are a better choise for everybody instead of Windows PC's

Let's discuss this matter. Are MAC computers really better then Windows computers or is it a matter of design and too popular features?

I like the Windows OS over the Apple OS for several reasons:

    1) It happens that the Mac OS just hasn't all the features I need
    2) People still prefer Windows over Mac, for other reasons.
    3) It is cheaper AND doesn't focus on design only... (Windows 8 doesn't count)
    4) You can select out of a wider range of products. You can buy a Dell laptop or a HP pc... but that advantage isn't there with MAC pc's...

    So what are your opinions?

I don't care as long I can play my games and as long it runs the stuff I do perfectly.

    I like this answer :)

many times people who have an apple say:

'an apple is better because of: blablabla'

but indeed Tarik, if it runs what you want it to do... why go to the other side

You started this because of me?

    Well, I choose OS X.

Almost no viruses. No annoying popups with everything you do. No eating up RAM... and so on.

But I like Windows too because it has alot of programs a Mac doesn't have, and it's Aero GUI is pretty nice.

    And Jonez, Windows isn't cheaper.
OS X costs (almost) 25 euro's. Windows costs about 150/200. It's the PC you pay for mostly with Apple.

Kind of, we started discussion this in a thread about backgrounds. I think this is an interesting discussion so... instead of making many off topics I created a new topic.

Mac OS, no virusses... forget it!
    http://www.security.nl/artikel/30552/15_virussen_voor_Mac_OS_X_ontdekt_in_2009.html

(I know you are Dutch, so I got you a Dutch article)

A OS that can't have any virus has yet been made. I am currently at high school following computer sience/ICT (or whatever is the right term) and I assure you, Mac OS can get pretty bad virusses.

The malware stuff comes form the sites and things you use. So then it doesn't matter which OS. It matters which firewall/AV you have.

Annoying pop-ups? Get a pop-up blocker! Or disable the pop-ups if you are talking about the Windows ones. You can do that for some.

    No eating RAM ... * sigh *

there is no reason to buy an apple computer. OSX can be run on a normal PC for a fraction of the price. modern macs use identical hardware to PCs.

Macs used to be very good at few specific tasks, back when they ran on powerpc hardware. Now they are nothing more than extremely overpriced PCs.

    I prefer Windows.
Well, for Windows there's a good anti-virus program called Microsoft Security Essentials.

You guys really can't use viruses as a point for either side. If you get a virus, you're going to places you shouldn't be going to, and doing something you shouldn't be doing.

    Torrents are shifty buggers.

9000x safer than using Limewire or something similar.

It really boils down to common sense. Limit the sources that you get your torrents from (ie. private trackers), read the comments on said torrents, and you should never, ever get a virus from a torrent, that is, unless you are a dumbass.

the myth that macs are safer from viruses is a seriously bad attitude to take, while there are fewer viruses produced for mac, there are still a considerable number and pretending or believing that macs are somehow invulnerable to them will get you into trouble. All is not well on the security front either, mac OSX lion shipped with an absolutely GAPING security flaw, allowing anyone to log onto a previously accessed LDAP server using ANY password, regardless of whether it was correct or not.
