Actually, as we get older our "focus" slowly diminishes which is why the older we get, the fewer multiple tasks we can handle.

Back in high school I used to be able to watch Television & do my homework at the same time. Now, I can't concentrate on typing out this post while I'm listening to an episode of G1 Transformers (I'm actually watching it). I can listen to it whilst I am reading posts by others, but when I need to type I have to pause the video a bit until I finish typing.

Only idiots don't know how to multitask.

I can watch porn, listen to music, eat some chips and jerk off at the same time. Now THAT'S multitasking.

We actually cannot multi task at all, what we consider "multi tasking" is basically just context switching from one task to another really quickly. People who can multi task can do that due to odd mutations in the brain activity, often seen in savants.

Also, the more familiar we become with the patterns of jobs we're doing the quicker we can context switch, thus why practice makes perfect. :)

Lol I suck at multitasking. Im watching TV right now and I can't type and watch at the same time (I have to stop typing for a while to watch and then I come back).

Only because we demand the washing done and a sandwich immediately, they get a lot of practice.

I don't know that the human brain is just like programming instructions. I mean, I can repeat something physically animated until it becomes automatic in muscle memory while focusing intently on something else. You can multi-task because not everything requires your entirely conscious focus. Obviously you can't consciously think several lines of thought at the same time, but sub-consciously might even be another story in regards to that.

This is kinda close. If I remember correctly then something does require our full concious focus, however, the more familiar you are with a task the faster you can switch into doing that, so you don't have to waste time catching up to what you were doing. I guess it's a kind of multi tasking, but maybe more like a really fast single core CPU. :p
