Any point in putting win7 on an old machine?

I get my new computer on Monday and am just wondering if it's worth putting windows 7 on my old machine. It's pretty feeble with a sempron 2400+ and one gig of ram but it's still going strong and will be used for internet activities until it conks out. Would win7 help or hinder? Would it even install?

Hinder, not worth it at all.

Is there a problem with it's current Operating system?

No major problems but it is a little unstable at times. I am using a modified xp (black xp) which I think may be the cause of the occasional instability and so I was going to reinstall standard home xp on it when I get my new machine, but not if win7 is a better option. Xp it is then.
    Thanks TirithRR.

Windows 7 needs 512MB of RAM and 1Ghz of processor speed.

I know. I'm trying to tell him that his computer needs those specs to even try to install it. Try TinyXP Beast, worked amazing for my old laptop.

if you want to use Tiny 7, it will be better than the full version...but it still needs 256 mbs of ram to function properly i think.

I'd use Tiny XP, Beast edition if you can do that.
