I took my 1TB external hard drive to reformat it-got sick of FAT32..NFTF FTW!

But on his computer he found a few disturbing things my AVG free didn't find-now I expected one or 2 space taking trojans but...

He found some "tracers" and 'tracking cookies"

Um..ok now he has the full version of AVG and picked them-yet my once a month updated free didn't...was it because They weren't scanned properly because I moved them straight to the external drive or is it because it's the free edition?

Also...now he explained tracers are bad (find passwords, etc) but what about tracking cookies-he considered them the same (he makes my pirating look small scale...he nearly killed me when he found these :( ) so should I be worried?

And the file we found these on...

    Tracers-on files I ripped myself-how'd that happen?

Tracking cookies-Since I only visit slim hacks, romUlation and facebook...why are these the bluk of what I find?

Any comments on these can help...thanks.

    R,

Im not going to recommend an AV,as the last time I did it got a 16 year old a bit high. But I would recommend uninstalling AVG and sourcing a better free one.

A good free junk remover is CCCleaner. You can also get SAS and MBAM,they pick up and remove all sorts of nasties.

Ugh... what's wrong with AVG I just spent all morning updating to ver 9. Mine ALWAYS pulls up tracking cookies. (stupid facebook)

What AV are you all using?

Kitty,I use AVG free, because I cant be bothered uninstalling it.There are better free programs available in terms of scanning time/detection rates/disinfection etc.
I have bought 2 x 3 user key packs from Kaspersky, but I gave them away because it didnt agree with this laptop Im using.I would rate KIS as one of the top 2 out there, maybe only Nod32 is better according to tests, but Ive not used that.

Even Avast is better than AVG LOL...

Yes,Avira-I wonder who's recommended that before LOL.

You could maybe ask Sbf93,as he appears to know things I dont LOL

Heres the link for Avira http://www.free-av.com/en/trialpay_download/1/avira_antivir_personal__free_antivirus.html

Its the free version you want, not the trial pay....

tracking cookies are files that store your surf behaviour, some examples are ads on Web sites that Internet Explorer stores
Tracking cookies can, in future, to security problems

So please change your browser to firefox or Opera

And I highly recommend NOD32 on as security software
    removed
    Avg and Norton are trash

tracking cookies are not dangerous. I imagine AVG did not scan your external, and since it did not find anything they posed no threat. Generally viruses and the like have to be executed before they can do anything, if they're just sitting on the drive they're harmless until executed.

No Warez allowed on this forum, and AVG is a perfectly good AV.

Sorry for this :( (for posting the key) avg is not realy bad , but my experience was very bad when i tested it for 3-4 months

Avira is also a very good (and hey , it's free!)

True,if I was paying I would go for the Kapersky suite.I was £15 for a 3 pc user kit.I think you can get a 1 licence pack for £5 off eBay.

I just bought a Acer netbook,so I will look out my Norton removal tool and may buy another KIS 3-pack LOL.

Avg is the most popular free av,then its Avast, then its Avira.

    Loonylion,which AV do you use?

Kaspersky, because I run a server OS. The company my dad works for uses AVG exclusively (not the free version).
