You can use various software exploits to install the firmware.

But, I find it much easier (and better in the long run) to invest the 6 dollars in a pre-made pandora battery. You then have a battery so you can recover your PSP if you ever brick/semi brick it by accident, etc.

For six dollars, you pretty much just ensured that your PSP will always be recoverable regardless of what you do with testing the CFW or various addons (like that Circle XMB mod).

Otherwise, I believe there are a few tutorials in the tutorial section about using the software exploits to run the downgrading program.

For a Pandora Battery downgrade, you can use this mini-guide that I created a while back.

This is what you need to do.

    Download PSP Grader v008 - http://pspslimhacks.com/psp-grader-v008/
Download OFW (Official Firmware) 5.00 (Second download link) - http://pspslimhacks.com/custom-firmware-500-m33-6-released/

Extract PSPGrader and the firmware (Rename the .PBP file to 500.PBP if it isn't that already.) to the same folder.

Hook your PSP to your computer.
Run PSPGrader and make sure that your PSP letter drive is highlighted.
Hit Create Pandora Stick and make sure that your don't get any errors.

Once that is finished, unplug your PSP from your computer and turn it off.
Remove the battery and Hold down the L button as you put the Pandora Battery into the PSP.
Make sure that it is in.

Then, if you get it to boot (may take a while for you to get it right), install CFW (Custom Firmware) 5.00 M33-6.

Once that is done, shutoff your PSP, take out the Pandora and put the real battery in.
    Start up your PSP.

    Download these files. - http://www.mediafire.com/?ybnmdywou2n
    http://dl.qj.net/psp/homebrew-applications/cfw-550-prometheus-v4.html

After that's done, put the 550.PBP on the root (main part) of the PSP memstick.
Put the UPDATE folder (found in the \PSP\GAME folder) and the 5.50_Prometheus folder in the \PSP\GAME\ folder.

Hit O to disconnect from the computer.
Go to the Memstick and go to game and run 5.50 GEN-D3 installer.

Follow the instructions and install 5.50 GEN-D3.
Once that's done reboot the PSP and run the Prometheus installer.

Once that's done you can play basically every game that's out on the net without patches. :)

    Hope this helps!

And if your PSP bricks, don't fret. ;)
You have a Pandora battery and as long as you keep those files on your PSP, you won't have to keep downloading them.

You cant get CFW without Pandora's Battery but what you can do is use
something callled ChickHen that lets you run isos. Its like a semi Cfw.
I think there is a tutorial in the tutorial section on how to install it.

Ummm...he has a 1000, so he can just use Hellcat's recovery flasher mod with 5.50 GEN-D3 pack.
ChickHEN doesn't allow you to play ISOs. CFW Enabler lets you install 5.03 GEN-C, and then, you can use CFW on a 3000 or under through ChickHEN. It's only used as a conduit and it's mainly for homebrew.

But I think that the Pandora Method is much easier and it's worth to have a Jigkick battery handy.

as an added note your better off using a computer with XP for the programs that create a magic memory stick for pandora as vista and 7 has issues with IPL injections and even using compatibility mode didn't work I wasted 2 weeks battling with it on 7 and finally got a hold of a computer with XP installed and it worked like a charm. I'm not saying it can't be done peroid, but it will save you time so you can get right to the games.

I tried PSPGrader, Rains, even Hellcat and a few others that I can't recall and still couldn't get them to work on Win7 ended up using PSPGrader on XP and it worked it actually surprised me how simple it really was after fighting with for 2 weeks.
