Hi guys, recently a annoying program has installed itself on my computer. It's called AntiSpyware Shield. Anyways, I go to uninstall it and it doesn't get rid of all the files, then I delete them and everytime I restart my computer, it installs itself back again. How do I get rid of this problem? I'm running AVG Free 7.5 Free Edition and I scanned for any viruses, none so far. And annoying pop-up messages keep showing like there is a red icon in the traybar that is an X then changes to a blue ? mark. If I click this, all these windows come up with ''free'' antivirus programs. And a window that has all these links to programs and kind of looks like a windows application, but I can tell it's fake. How do I get rid these? Please help!
try going to 'set program access and defaults' in your start menu and then add or remove programs and try removing it that way.
download and run Spybot search & destroy. Update it and then scan. If that doesnt work, go to start -> run, type 'msconfig' and press enter. switch to the 'startup' tab and untick everything you can't account for ( and antispyware shield if it shows up as that). Then reboot and you should then be able to manually delete the files.
If those don't work, try system restore, and restore to a point where it hasnt been alive... on your computer
I always go to the control panel and doing add or remove program but sometimes I doesnt seem to do the full uninstallation... the thing that gets me angry is when I want to delete a file thats not there, like what you just experienced.
I tried System Restore for everyday in January so far and it doesn't work. And I'll try what you said Loony.
