As you might know, analog will be no more, Digital is the future in T.V. transmissions.

But is this for the best or the worse?

Some people say that is going to help emergency lines work better, some people say that is a form of monopolisation for those of us that have a T.V.

    What's your take on this?

I live in Australia, and we're still in the process of switching from anologue to digital television. All my TV's in the house all use digital tv now. And I've got to say, it does look pretty good, with nearly or about DVD quality.

Only one problem for me so far, has been the fact that on bad days....instead of when you get maybe the ghost or rain effect with anologue televeion, digital is worse, in the fact that it freezes and can really get on your nerves.

I really wish television stations could continue to keep anologue tv, as sometimes for me it becomes a great backup on those bad nights I have with digital television.

Other than that, it's great. If you have a DVD recorder and you tape digital programs, it honestly looks like your watching an original DVD copy of a film or tv show.

I honestly can't tell the difference... but I am using a TV from the late 80's with basic cable... so i don't know if that would affect anything

that would be analogue most likely. The main difference is that digital is compressed and uses less of the radio spectrum to transmit, thereby freeing up spectrum for other uses.

i don't see the difference either...we have more channels now (with digital) but when the weather is bad we have no tv :S and we have to buy a different receiver for each tv that's pretty expensive...

the purpose of hd tv is so you can subscribe for tv.
over the air transmission is very awful as it's very sensitive. it needs to be precise, one little tiny thing getting in the way and the signal would drop. we use over the air transmission, and when someone goes into the bathroom, the signal would garble up and drop. we have to sacrifice some channels for better receptions of other channels [we ended up sacrificing channel 4].

the only great thing about hd tv is that there is no snow. the pictures are nice and clear. the picture is above dvd quality as it is displayed in 720+. the most i get is 1080i.

one of the weakness of satellite TV, its unviewable during bad weather.

anyway analog and digital destribution is the same things, the only changes is the date is not longer encrypted in wave form but in binary form, the binary form will no noise as long as you can get the signal, you will get the same quality picture as everyone else, so no more antena moving like the analog destribution.

It's still modulated onto a wave. The difference is its compressed first, and can theoretically contain extra data to help it cope with errors. You need to be in an area with a strong analogue signal otherwise you might need an aerial upgrade to get the best digital signal.
