    PSP FAQ

With everyone getting PSP these days there are a lot of questions floating around.
So heres a nice little FAQ that should clear up any questions you may have. This FAQ is not supposed to guide
you through the process of how to do each thing, merely let you know that it is possible so that you can use
    google to find instructions.

    Can a PSP be 'Hacked'?

Yes, A PSP can be 'Downgraded' to Custom Firmware allowing you to do all of the fun stuff below.
Note:Later PSP slim and lites may have a TA088V3 motherboard which can not be downgraded
by any means. Also the new PSP 3000 can not be downgraded either.

What do I require for downgrading?

To downgrade a PSP first you need to acquire a 'Pandoras Battery'. This special battery will put your
PSP into service mode, allowing you to write new firmware. It is possible to make a Pandoras Battery by
Hardmodding a PSP slim battery or softmodding a PSP phat battery. Though it will be much easier and less
risky for most people just to purchase one.

You will also need a 'Magic Memory Stick'. This is the memory card which will write the custom firmware to your
PSP. Any memory card can be used to make a magic memory stick (except for a 32MB card since it wont be able
to hold enough data). There is plenty of software that can make a magic memory stick for you. Once you have
used it to downgrade your PSP you can format it and use it normally.

Can I play PSP games from my memory card?

Yes, PSP games (ISOs) should be placed into the ISO folder on your memory stick. This will allow you to play
them on the PSP. If you run into a loading error the most common cause is that UMD mode is enabled
(turn off your PSP, hold R Trigger, turn on PSP, under configuration change UMD mode to 'NO UMD')
also updating to the latest firmware will help. You can find PSP games here:
    https://www.romulation.org/forum/index.php/topic,10756.0.html

What is the difference between CSO and ISO?

CSO is just a compressed format of ISO, hence CSOs take up less room on the memory stick allowing more games
to fit. However some games will lag or freeze up in CSO format. Converting them to ISO usually solves the problem.

Can I play PSX games on my PSP?

Yes, PSX (Playstation 1) games can be played on your PSP. You first need to convert them to 'EBOOT.PBP' format
so that the PSP can read them. They should then be placed into the 'GAME' folder on your memory stick.
    See the PSX2PSP tutorial here:
    https://www.romulation.org/forum/index.php/topic,9995.0.html
or you can find already converted PSX games here:
    https://www.romulation.org/forum/index.php/topic,8535.0.html

Can I use emulators on my PSP?

Yes, there are currently hundreds of different emulators for PSP including NES, SNES, Genesis, MAME, and many more.
Each emulator has its own configuration and set up process, so read the readme file of the emulator you download
for instructions on getting it running. There is a list of emulators for PSP here:
    https://www.romulation.org/forum/index.php/topic,5378.0.html

Can I watch movies on my PSP?

Yes, Using a program such and PSPVideo9 to convert your movies to the correct MP4 format is the best way to get
movies playing correctly on your PSP. You can also find movies here:
    https://www.romulation.org/forum/index.php/topic,10826.0.html

If there is a question that you think should be added then please PM the the question and I will add it to the list.
